Kevin Sexton, former president and CEO of Holy Cross Health hospitals, has been tapped to chair a powerful state commission charged with setting hospital rates in Maryland, the Moore administration announced Thursday.

Great news! Today the Maryland Health Benefit Exchange Board approved keeping the state subsidy program that helps make private health plans through Maryland Health Connection affordable for young adults and low-income Marylanders at the same level of generosity for plan year 2027 as it has been for 2026.

This was made possible by the Health Services Cost Review Commission (HSCRC) last month taking action to use the hospital rate system to prevent uncompensated care in Maryland by investing $100 million for one year into the Maryland Health Benefit Exchange Fund.

The HSCRC also allocated $25 million to federally qualified health centers and local health departments to provide primary care and prevent unnecessary emergency room use for Marylanders unable to retain coverage.
