Many people expect to have sharp vision right after cataract surgery. However, in some cases, it can remain blurry or fluctuate even after a successful surgery.

Even though having dry eyes is a frequent cause, there is another less-known condition that may affect a patient’s quality of vision: epithelial basement membrane dystrophy (EBMD), a cornea alteration that may remain unnoticed in routine checkups.

Some of its symptoms may include:
✔️ Changing of vision through a day.
✔️ Doubled or shadowy images.
✔️ Increased light sensitivity, especially during the night.
✔️ Difficulty to have completely sharp vision.

Early detection of these alterations is essential since they can affect both the surgery plans and the subsequent results. Do not hesitate to have a consultation!

Did you know that some dry eye problems are connected to your eyelids’ position and functions?

✨ A combination of blepharoplasty and IPL therapy has become an innovative alternative for patients looking to improve both their looks and their ocular comfort.

🔹 Blepharoplasty helps correct your eyelids’ droop and flaccidity.
🔹 IPL therapy treats inflammation and improves the performance of the glands responsible for producing the tears’ oily layer.

The result?
✔️ Increased stability of the tear film.
✔️ Reduced irritation and burning sensation.
✔️ Increased comfort while reading or using screens.
✔️ Reduced need for artificial tears.
✔️ A well-rested and functional look.

If you live in Towson, Roland Park, Homeland, Gilford, or Hampden, at Precision Eye Care, Dr. Romero assesses each case in a personalized manner to find the best approach depending on each patient’s needs.

The answer is yes, but not during an active phase.

To have a safe surgery, keeping allergies under control and not having any inflammation in the eyes are essential factors.

🔍 Key information to consider:

✔ Preliminary checkup: any allergies must be treated before having surgery (with antihistamines, artificial tears, or other indicated treatments).

✔ Advantages over other techniques: Unlike LASIK, EVO ICL does not alter the cornea’s surface, nor does it worsen any dry eye condition, making it an excellent option for patients who suffer from allergies.

✔ Less irritation in the long term: by stopping wearing contact lenses (a frequent cause for irritation), many patients have lesser allergy symptoms.

At Precision Eye Care, Dr. Romero deeply assesses each case to make sure all patients are in their best condition before undergoing any procedure.

Grace Jamison’s case is a cautionary tale we should not ignore.
At the age of 19, she suffered a serious infection after showering while wearing her contact lenses. There were Acanthamoebas in the water, a microorganism that can lead to a severe infection called Acanthamoeba keratitis.

Lenses can make it easier for this microorganism to get stuck on the ocular surface, increasing the risk of infections.

Result: intense pain, inflammation, blurry vision, and permanent damage to one of her eyes.

🚨 Things to avoid:
– Showering or swimming while wearing contact lenses.
– Sleeping with contact lenses on.
– Reusing contact lenses solution instead of replacing it.
– Touching contact lenses without having washed your hands.
Grace’s treatment was long, painful, and complex. And even though she partially recovered her vision, she is still struggling.

That is why this is an especially important message: do not underestimate how you use and handle your contact lenses.

👁️Cataract surgery has evolved, and now, its recovery can also be simpler.

The “dropless” technique reduces or even eliminates all needs for eyedrops after surgery, which is one of the main concerns from our patients.

How does it work?
During the procedure itself, a specialist places medication directly inside the patient’s eye, which is then released gradually, helping to control inflammation and prevent infections.
By getting this medication during the surgery, any chances of it being forgotten or being used incorrectly, which are common issues during traditional treatments, are avoided.

Is anyone eligible?
Not necessarily. Every patient is unique, making preliminary assessments essential to determine if this technique is a good match for you.

At Precision Eye Care, Dr. Romero assesses each case in a personalized manner to offer the best alternative and follow up with you during the whole process.

A fact that allows us to fully understand this visual affection’s real range.

Are you one of the many Baltimore citizens feeling a burning or sandy sensation or itchiness in their eyes who usually underestimate their symptoms?

Dry eyes happen when we do not produce enough tears or when our tears do not have the necessary quality to protect the eyes’ surfaces.

What can cause it?
✔ Extended time in front of screens
✔ Contact lenses
✔ Medication (such as antihistamines)
✔ Environmental factors (wind, air conditioning, pollution)
✔ Diseases, such as Sjögren Syndrome or rheumatoid arthritis

The good news is that there is a treatment for it. 🙌
From artificial tears to more advanced therapies, such as specific medication or inpatient treatments, there are several options depending on the specific cases.

Do not ignore any discomfort.
Dry eyes can affect your quality of life, your rest, and your daily performance.

At Precision Eye Care, Dr. Romero assesses the real cause of your symptoms to offer personalized and effective treatment.

Well-known YouTuber MrBeast surprised everyone by saying he is suffering a serious loss of his vision in one of his eyes. While he is still making content for millions of viewers, his case is a clear reminder: even young people may have visual problems.

Some people have linked his symptoms to Stargardt disease, a genetic condition that affects the macula (the part of the eye responsible for central vision and details).

👁️ What does this disease do?
Blurry central vision, while peripheral vision usually remains unaffected.

These symptoms are often confused with fatigue or the need for glasses.

📍 In cities such as Baltimore, where medical and ophthalmologic innovations are continuous, early detection is essential to be able to access genetic studies, personalized monitoring, and new therapies being developed.

MrBeast’s case leaves an important message:
👉 Do not wait until you see worse to have a consultation.
👉 Prevention and early diagnosis can make a meaningful difference.
