8 hour hike I Yosemite National Park and we only saw one other human, right near the trailhead. Quality time with a dear friend, and the flower show was out of this world.

My 92 year-old mother is staying with us for a few weeks. This afternoon, she made herself a nice healthy lunch of Greek yogurt with organic blueberries and strawberries. Before eating her lunch, I saw her wander into my home based workspace as if she were looking for something. And I thought to myself: oh no, is she starting to slip cognitively? Why would she make herself lunch and then wander into my workspace as if she’s looking for something?

My mother is completely a creature of habit. And one of her habits is: exercise then eat. She wasn’t lost at all! She was looking for that foam roller to do the rest of her daily exercises before eating (she did the first half before breakfast). I am so stinking proud that she can easily get down on the floor to do this wonderful exercise I learned decades ago from. Sherri Betz.

(The messy pile in the background is my fire evacuation pile… The reality of the conditions, we are living under at this time)

Lessons learned from recent backpack:

🦟 I was reminded why I generally don’t backpack in June. I can be very Zen about mosquitoes, but by day three my Zen-ness was wearing thin.

💰 We could probably have sold our full body bug suits for a lot of money on this trip. And, glacial blue is still a favorite color.

🧑‍🍳The perfect wind shelter for cooking might be quite awkward to cook in.

🧭 I was thrilled to discover that after a quarter of a century, following my ranger husband around off trail, I have not completely lost my cross country navigation skills, and I managed to never get us cliffed out.

📷 I still suck at selfies.

🏔️The incredible views from camp, made it all worthwhile.

❤️After 35+ years of friendship, Amie is still one of my favorite people on the planet.

I have the honor of helping out with his first fore into the hybrid class room space, and despite being AiM staff, and having spent gobs (and gobs) of time learning from Gary, I am still learning new things!🤯 What a great way to explain timing in the gait cycle, which is what the Flow Motion Model (the foundation of the AiM Method) is all about.

This video is three years old, but for some reason, I’m just seeing it today. That year, we were literally cut off by avalanches and couldn’t go anywhere to ski. This video was made when we could finally get out of our neighborhood and drive a few miles to go skiing on all the wonderful snow that we’d been shoveling for literally months.

Three years later almost to the day, we are expecting weather in the 70s and it seems ski season is over a few months earlier than normal. What a treat to see this video and be reminded today.

Thanks to for the great video and the great memory.

I’ve had the honor and privilege of studying with since 2014. So, when she started a Substack, I subscribed immediately. She hosts a regularly scheduled journal club, with the author of whatever paper we are discussing as her guest. She also hosts a quarterly Q & A.

Her mind boggles mine. The combination of her vast clinical experience, her intimate knowledge of current research, and her innovative, thinking (including on the spot in a Q & A…whoa what an amazing answer!!!) is more than worth the price of admission.

And talk about imposter syndrome… I have learned so much from the other attendees, that I actually question: “what am I even doing here?“ So much knowledge being shared!

Iif you have any interest in pelvic health and/or female athletes, not to be missed.

Anyone who knows me won’t be surprised that I am reposting this editorial. How could I not repost an article with a section subheading “THE ALLURE AND RISK OF CERTAINTY “ — my confirmation bias on full display🤓.

Monika Volkmar, check this out! A topic we discussed at large in your interview of me on your substack: https://substack.com/inbox/post/175767120 (not actually sure I want to share this😂🤦).

Thanks so much to .dpt for this brilliant editorial.
