PTSD isn’t always loud.
Sometimes it looks like overthinking every situation.
Replaying conversations in your head for hours.
Needing to know where every exit is when you walk into a room.
Feeling on edge even when nothing is wrong.
Jumping at unexpected sounds.
Struggling to relax because you’re always waiting for the next bad thing to happen.
It can look like avoiding certain places, certain people, or certain memories.
It can look like constantly preparing for disasters that haven’t happened.
PTSD doesn’t always look the way people think it does.
Sometimes it’s a nervous system that learned the world wasn’t safe and never quite got the message that the danger has passed.
June is PTSD Awareness Month.
And for the people carrying invisible scars from things they never should have had to survive, you deserve to be seen too.
