Gloria Walling Carter, 92, passed away Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at Pruitt Health- Barnwell. Gloria was born in Ehrhardt, SC on July 24, 1934.

Gloria was preceded in death by her first husband George Walling, III and later Harry Carter. She was also preceded by her first grandson, Jeff Wilterding.

She is survived by her daughter Brenda Weimorts of Barnwell, her son Steve Walling and his wife Donna of Barnwell, and her daughter Jean Murphy and her husband Frank of Calabash, NC. Also, eight grandchildren, Ryan Wilterding, Steven Walling, Tara Murphy-Lemar, Kyle Murphy, Brooke Anastasia, Haley Brown, Scott Murphy and Sarah Weimorts, sixteen great grandchildren and a sister, Atha Marie Andrews of Ocala, FL.

For many years she provided childcare to numerous children in Barnwell. She had a love for children that never diminished.

Gloria loved sewing and crocheting. She was an avid sports fan, especially when it came to watching her children. One of her greatest joys was working in her yard and she took great pride and pleasure in doing so. She had a green thumb and loved watching things grow. She loved her family and loved spending time with them. She will be missed tremendously by her family and friends.

A visitation will be held at 1 pm on Friday, October 23, 2026, at Mole Funeral Home, with funeral services following at 2 pm. Pastor Marion Ricky Hadwin will be officiating. Graveside service will follow at the Barnwell County Memory Gardens Cemetery on Reynolds Road. Serving as Paul Bearers will be Ryan Wilterding, Steven Walling, Frank Murphy, Scott Murphy, Richie Brown, and Dave Anastasia.

For nearly three years Gloria was a resident at Pruitt Health-Barnwell, where she was affectionately known as “Shug”. The family would like to extend a heartfelt “thank you” to the staff and many friends at Pruitt Health-Barnwell for the love and compassion that were shown to Shug. She was happy and well loved. Such love and kindness truly were a blessing to Shug and her family. Thank you!

Patricia Diane Bradley Ayer, 81, passed away on October 16th, 2026. She was born in Savannah, GA on June 21st, 1945 to the late Jake and Ilagene Phillips Bradley.

She was a very active member of Bethel Baptist Church, and a retired Production Operator at Savannah River Site. She loved fishing and cooking for her friends and family, and especially loved her cats.

She is survived by her daughters Peggy Sanders of Graniteville, SC, and Cindy Ferneyhough of Olar, SC; step-daughters Sheila (Doug) Mathis of Columbia, SC, and Lisa (Billy) Mundy of Williston, SC; brother Wayne Bradley; sisters Linda Edwards, Joyce Kennedy, and Marie Terrell; grandchildren Crystal (Bryant) Martie, Jason (Brandy) Fail, Chris (Jennifer) Ferneyhough Jr., Taylor Cable, Kayla Mathis, Kaitlyn (Keith) Augustine, and Kelsey (Joel) Cheek; 16 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur Reeve Ayer; brothers Mickey Bradley and Vernon Bradley; as well as her son-in-law, Timothy Sanders.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 20th, 2026 at 1:00 PM at Bethel Baptist Church, with funeral services following in the church at 2:00 PM. Rev. Doug Mathis and Rev. Travis Morehead will be officiating. Graveside will follow in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.

Perry Jacob Beasley, 75, passed away on September 27th, 2026. He was born on June 12th, 1951 in Barnwell, SC to the late Ralph and Louise Hightower Beasley. He worked as a Security Guard for SRS, loved his cats, drawing, and being outdoors.

He is survived by his brother-in-law, Norman Sanders; as well as many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his brothers Dennis Beasley and Glen Beasley; sisters Nat Beasley, Pat Sanders, and Merryl Primus.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 3rd, 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Barnwell County Memorial Cemetery, with Rev. Timothy Gunnells officiating.

Mr. John David Bessinger, III entered his heavenly home Monday, September 21, 2026 surrounded by his family.

Johnnie was born October 3, 1946 in Savannah, Georgia. His family moved from St. George, SC to Barnwell, SC when he was five years old. He was the son of the late John D. Jr. and Evelyn Haywood Bessinger. Johnnie graduated from Barnwell High School in 1966. He then attended Gardner Webb University, Boiling Springs, NC on a football scholarship and later graduated from Columbia Commercial College with a Business Degree. Johnnie retired from the Savannah River Nuclear Solutions (SRNS) in 2009. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Johnnie served seven years as an E5 in the South Carolina Army National Guard, member of Harmony Masonic Lodge #17 and of El Bab Shriners. He was a past member of Omar Shrine Temple. In October 2019, Johnnie was awarded the Life Member award from Harmony Lodge 17. Johnnie served on the Barnwell County Transportation Committee from 2011-2013 representing District 4. In previous years, Johnnie enjoyed hunting and fishing and riding his Harley Davidson. He was an avid University of South Carolina Gamecock football fan. For over 30 years, he was in the stadium stands as well as following the USC Gamecocks on the road.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Sophia Renew Bessinger. He is also survived by his brother-in-law and wife, Ricky and Tina Renew, nieces and nephews Whitney (C**ton) Sanders, Madison Renew (Will Wilson), Blake & Sydney Renew, Kyle Renew (Morgan Stanley) and great nephews, Merritt and Wyatt Sanders. Johnnie is also survived by numerous cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased in death by his niece, Morgan Renew, Father and Mother-in-law, Shellie and Flossie Renew and sister-in-law, Connie R. Cook of Barnwell.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude and love to Johnnie’s faithful and loving caregiver for the past fourteen years, Teresa Gunnells. We would also like to thank Charlie Neal and Carl Davis in assisting his wife in transferring Johnnie to his doctor's appointments. The family would also like to thank the staff at Amedisys Hospice Care for their care during this difficult time and especially for the care given by Mrs. Cierra B. Smith.

Services will be held Friday, September 25, 2026 at Calvary Baptist Church, Barnwell, South Carolina. Visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 pm with services beginning at 2:00 pm., officiated by Rev. Dean Deer and Rev. Timothy Gunnells. Graveside services with Masonic Rites will follow in the Barnwell County Memory Gardens Cemetery on Reynolds Rd. Honored to serve as pallbearers are Blake Renew, Kyle Renew, C**ton Sanders, Will Wilson, Ricky Black, and Roland Brant.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Benjamin Lewis Hair, a cherished soul who unexpectedly departed this world on September 17, 2026. Born on March 11, 1962, in Bamberg, South Carolina, Benjamin was a beacon of light and laughter to everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Benjamin was the beloved son of the late G.L. Hair and Lottie Mae Zorn Hair. He was also predeceased by his sister, Nancy T. Hunt, and brother, Joseph Hair. Despite these profound losses, Benjamin's spirit remained unyielding, fueled by the love and support of his surviving family.

Benjamin shared 16 wonderful years with his fiancé, Carol Stokes, whom he met in 2006. Together, they built a life rich with laughter, cherished memories, and heartfelt gatherings around good food. Their home was often filled with the warmth of family and friends, and Benjamin relished every moment spent with his loved ones.

A devoted father, he leaves behind his daughters, Erika Flickinger (Stephen) of Jackson, SC, and Mariah Crane (Tony) of Aiken, SC. He is also survived by his step-children, Pamuela Stokes, Brandon Stokes, Ronnie Stokes, and Aaron Stokes; his brother, William Hair of Olar, SC, and sister, Gwendolyn Winland of Florence, SC. Benjamin took immense pride in his nine grandchildren: Natalie Crane of Aiken, SC, Kendall Stokes and Kennedi Stokes of Hampton, SC, Markion Stokes, Jamira Stokes, and RJ Stokes of Bluffton, SC, Amiyah Stokes of Greenville, SC, Aliea Crane of Aiken, SC, and Brian Crane of Moulton, AL. His legacy continues through these grandchildren and his four great-grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

Benjamin's life was marked by a commitment to service and learning. After graduating from Denmark-Olar High School, he pursued a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology from the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC. He honorably served in the United States Air Force before dedicating many years to healthcare at Baptist Hospital in Columbia, Allendale County Hospital, and Hampton County Hospital, where he eventually retired.

An active member of both the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses and Lighthouse Church in Hampton, SC, Benjamin lived a life of faith and community service. His passions included fishing, traveling, and cooking, where he was known as a connoisseur of good food. He enjoyed tinkering around the house and had a love for motorcycle rides. Benjamin was often found cheering on his grandchildren at their sporting events, a testament to his unwavering support and love for his family.

Those who knew Benjamin will fondly remember his sense of humor and quick wit. He was a dependable friend, always ready to lend a hand, and his love for his family was palpable in every interaction.

Benjamin's departure leaves a void that can never be filled, but his spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched. His life was a testament to love, laughter, and generosity, and he will be profoundly missed.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 24th, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Mole Funeral Home, 9399 Patterson Street, Barnwell, SC 29812, with a memorial service following at 3:00 PM in the Mole Funeral Home Chapel. Mary Lee Plunk, 80, passed away on Thursday, September 17, 2026.

Mary Lee Plunk General Administrative Forman for SRNS Carpenters was born October 4, 1945 in South Carolina to parents Kite Rountree and Sallie Mae Rountree.

She grew up in a large family alongside her siblings Perry, Cora Lee, Marie, and Rachael. She later married James Hugh Plunk, a US Navy veteran and supervisor at Burlington Industries.

Together, they resided in Barnwell, South Carolina, and raised daughters Debora Sue and Beverly Ann.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, September 20, 2026 at 3:00 PM in Seven Pines Baptist Church, with Pastor Mark Watford officiating. Burial will follow in the Barnwell County Cemetery by the airport. The family will greet guests one hour prior to the service on Sunday. Honored to serve as pallbearers are James Zawacki, Nikki Jackson, Charles Jackson, Logan Adams, Chad Bolen, and Greg Prather.

Ms. Plunk is survived by her daughter Beverly Plunk; grandchildren Gregory Lee Prather, Haley Lauren Prather, Jacqualine Birchmore, Brad Cochran, Danielle Moncrieft, and Katelyn Cochran; great grandchildren Channing Moncrieft, Silas Moncrieft, Elijah Moncrieft, and Harlow Sue Taylor. She was predeceased by her daughter, Debora Sue Cochran.

Morganton, GA - John Kenny Thompson, 72, a retired Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Parks and Historic Sites Division Chief of Operations, died Thursday, September 10, 2026, peacefully at home.

Mr. Thompson was born in Louisville, GA on April 20, 1954, the youngest son of Sam J. Thompson and Lula Brassell Thompson. He was a 1973 graduate of Barnwell High School, Barnwell, SC, and a 1978 graduate of Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, GA. His career with the Georgia State Parks lasted 34 years, until his retirement in 2009. He was an active member of Faith Presbyterian Church in Mineral Bluff, GA a member of Old Union Golf Club in Blairsville, GA and an active AT hiker.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Frances Amos Thompson, two sons, Joshua Kenneth Thompson (Katy) of Thomasville, GA, and Seth J. Thompson (Rachel) of Savannah, GA; five grandchildren, Trammell, Mary Evenal, Ozie, Beata, Julian Thompson of Thomasville, GA; brothers, Donnie Thompson of San Antonio, TX, Kary Thompson of Spartanburg, SC, sister, Kathy T. Shaw of Pine Mountain, GA, and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Sammie Thompson, James Thompson and a grandson, Emmett Thompson.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Faith Presbyterian Church in Mineral Bluff, GA, on Saturday, October 3, 2026, @ 12:00 o'clock with a video tribute and visitation beginning @ 11:00 o'clock.

A graveside service will be in Barnwell, SC on October 24th, 2026 at 1:00 PM at the Barnwell County Memorial Cemetery.

Roger Hoyle Pritchard was born on July 2, 1942, in Cherokee County, South Carolina, the son of Margaret Williams.

Mr. Pritchard worked in construction throughout his life and was the former owner of Western Auto. He was a member of Barnwell First Baptist Church.

Roger was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

The family will receive friends on Monday, September 7, from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. at Barnwell First Baptist Church. Funeral services will immediately follow the visitation. Burial will follow in the Barnwell County Memorial Cemetery at the Airport.

Memorials may be made in Roger’s memory to the First Baptist Church VBS Foundation.

Betty Jean “Bubbles” Henderson McNeely passed away on September 1, 2026. Born on May 5, 1938, she was a daughter of Essie Lou Burton Henderson and Robert Franklin Henderson, who preceded her in death.

Betty married Samuel H. “Buzzie” McNeely on July 2, 1960. They were married for 66 years and renewed their vows on their 50th anniversary. Together, they had four children: Pam Flasch (Mark), Debi Swing, Lee McNeely (Rebecca), and Kim McCue (Patrick). She is survived by her husband; her children; her grandchildren, Jill Lawrence (Drew), Anna Wolford (Nic), Abigail McNeely, Samuel C. McNeely, Robert “Mac” Fulcher, Robert “Carter” McNeely, and Aileen Lee Fulcher; and her great-granddaughters, Mays and Quinn Lawrence.

She was a devoted wife and mother who loved baking for family and friends. An extra special recipe was her Christmas fruitcake. She was also a gifted crocheter, known for making afghans for extended family, friends, acquaintances, and the many causes she supported.

She was preceded in death by her siblings: Charles Henderson (Evelyn), Wilbert Henderson (Betty June), Haskell Henderson (Tate), Helen Henderson Smith (Andy), Margaret Henderson Vaigneur (Byron), Robert Henderson (Marie), David Henderson, and Melvin Henderson (Judy and Ann).

Jerry Lott Bodiford, “Big” to family and close friends, 84, of Barnwell, SC passed away peacefully at his home on August 14, 2026.

Born in Blackville, SC, Jerry was the firstborn son of Audrey and Audrey Lott Bodiford. Upon graduating from Blackville High School in 1960, Jerry began his career in telecommunications with Southern Bell Telephone Company. His employment continued with the telephone company through its many merges until his retirement in 2000. Upon retiring from the telephone company, Jerry established his own telecommunication company, Bodiford Services, where he provided services for schools and hospitals throughout the state of South Carolina. The highlight of his career was his employment with Augusta National Country Club during the Masters Golf Tournaments from 2000 until 2020.

Jerry was a leader, a role model, and faced life’s challenges with the motto, “just an opportunity”. Most importantly, he was a Christian and a long time member of Mt. Lebanon Christian Church where he served as a Deacon for 60 years. Jerry enjoyed spending time with his family, camping, fishing, and barbequing. He is remembered for his infamous Big’s BBQ Sauce.

Jerry leaves behind his loving wife of 63 years, Vera Sanders Bodiford ; daughter, Robin (Gary) Brantley ; son, Audrey Jo “Jody” (Redeena) Bodiford; granddaughter, Mattison Brantley (Tyler) Baum ; grandsons, Audrey Wayne (Olivia Mock) Bodiford, Jacob (Taylor Akin) Bodiford , Joseph (Kansas) Bodiford ; great granddaughters, Audrey Vera “Ava” Baum and the expectant Kizzy Jo Bodiford ; two sisters, Jane Bodiford Fore of Easley, SC, Terri Bodiford (Mark) Bolton of Aiken, SC ; numerous nieces, nephews , cousins and his very best friend; Thomas Boulware “Uncle Buddy” of Barnwell, SC. Jerry is predeceased by his parents and brother, Donald Barry Bodiford.

The family would like to recognize and extend a heartfelt thank you to Amber Brown, Justin Folk, Dusty Williams (cousin), Morris Williams (cousin) the staff at Anchor Rehabilitation Center and Gentiva Hospice.

A celebration of life is planned at Mt. Lebanon Christian Church on Tuesday, August 18, 2026 with visitation at 10 o’clock in the morning and the funeral at 11 o’clock, with Rev. Ron Franklin, Rev. Larry Hutto, and Preacher Thomas Terry officiating.
