WHAT is Dry Needling?
I hear this question all the time - is it acupuncture? My friend told me to get it….Is it painful? How long is it in? How will this help me?
Every time dry needling looks like this:
1. Assessment of range of motion, strength and quality of functional movment
2. The needle (30 seconds up to a couple minutes). Patients say this might feel crampy, aching, deep, or twitching. Then needle(s) come out
3. Reassessment of the area we’re treating
4. Muscle retraining - Apply home exercise plan to maintain change in the muscle
The exercises after the needling matter. Tissue change without movement tends to fade quickly — movement locks the gains in. Soreness can remain up to 48 hours after treatment, but motion is lotion! Keep moving to relieve any soreness.
