Tonight neighborhoods across the area are turning on their porch lights, pulling out the lawn chairs, and getting to know the people who live right down the street. That is what National Night Out is about. Showing up for each other.

988 is part of that same idea.

You Don't Need a Reason That Sounds Big Enough..

A lot of people talk themselves out of reaching out because it doesn't feel serious enough.

It's just stress. It's just a rough patch. Other people have it worse. So they wait, and it keeps sitting on them.

Last week, one of the people who helps lead this work in your community sat down with us to talk about 988. It was a chance to hear, in plain and honest terms, what this resource really is and who it is for.

Here is something a lot of people are surprised to learn. 988 is not only for emergencies, and it is not only a phone call. You can talk, text, or chat with a caring person any time you need one. Feeling overwhelmed. Worried about someone you love. Carrying stress that will not quite lift. Just needing to be heard. Those are all good reasons to reach out.

This month also marks four years since 988 became the nationwide number for the Su***de and Crisis Lifeline. Four years of neighbors reaching out a little earlier and finding someone ready to listen. And in Ohio, that someone is a trained counselor right here close to home.

One of the biggest? That 988 is only for emergencies, or that it works the same way as calling 911. It does not. 988 is the Su***de and Crisis Lifeline, and it is here for so much more than a moment of crisis.

We invite you to join our Board of Directors for its monthly meeting on Monday, July 13, 2026 at 7:00pm at 4357 Ferguson Drive, Suite 230, Cincinnati, OH 45245. The Board meets monthly to discuss various topics on the agenda. The meetings consist of Board members, Board staff, Provider Agency representatives, and interested parties, and is open to the public. The meetings are currently being held in person.
