This second-time momma did amazing work last night, and made us all so proud, redeeming a somewhat traumatizing first birth into a beautifully different experience this time. She was so happy, and couldn’t stop smiling and exclaiming how wonderful it felt to give birth this time. 💞
In addition, she is our second baby in a row to birth her baby “en caul” (which means still in the amniotic sac)! There’s something ancient, mysterious, and breathtakingly beautiful about a baby being born en caul—“gently floating in the protective waters of the womb, even as they emerge into the world. While rare, these births are unforgettable and often spark a sense of awe for everyone in the room.” En caul births are extremely rare- they say 1 in 80,000! I’m not sure I believe that statistic because she’s our second en caul birth in 3 weeks! (And my Evelyn was also born en caul 🩷) However, if we left labor alone more often, with less unecessary interventions, I believe those odds would be different…
Babies born en caul are said to be especially blessed and divinely appointed. Whether you believe that or not, it’s still a miraculous sight to behold.
