Is It Time for a Psychological Evaluation?

๐Ÿ“š School is backโ€”and sometimes the signs that a child is struggling become more noticeable once the school year begins.

A psychological evaluation may help provide answers when you notice:

๐Ÿง  Learning concerns โ€“ Your child is working hard but continues to struggle academically.

๐ŸŽฏ Attention & executive functioning โ€“ Difficulty focusing, staying organized, completing assignments, or managing time.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Social difficulties โ€“ Trouble making friends, understanding social cues, or navigating relationships.

๐Ÿ˜Ÿ Emotional concerns โ€“ Frequent anxiety, sadness, worry, emotional outbursts, or difficulty managing feelings.

๐Ÿ˜ก Behavior changes โ€“ Increased defiance, frustration, meltdowns, school refusal, or significant changes in behavior.

๐Ÿ“– School concerns โ€“ Falling grades, difficulty keeping up with peers, or teachers expressing ongoing concerns.

๐Ÿงฉ Developmental concerns โ€“ Questions about ADHD, autism, learning differences, or other developmental needs.

A psychological evaluation isn't about putting a label on your child. It's about understanding how your child learns, thinks, feels, and functions so you can better understand what support they need. โค๏ธ

If youโ€™ve noticed a pattern of concerns, the start of a new school year can be a good time to seek answers and create a plan for success.

๐ŸŽโœ๏ธ Back-to-School Means Back to Routine! ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ’›

As the new school year begins, getting back into a consistent routine can help children feel more confident, focused, and ready to learn.

Here are a few simple ways to ease the transition:
๐ŸŒ™ Set a consistent bedtime and wake-up time.
๐ŸŽ’ Pack backpacks and lay out clothes the night before.
๐Ÿฅฃ Start the day with a healthy breakfast.
๐Ÿ“ต Limit screen time before bed to promote better sleep.
๐Ÿ’ฌ Check in with your child each day about how they're feeling.

Remember, it's normal for children to feel excited, nervous, or even overwhelmed during the first few weeks of school. A predictable routine provides comfort and helps reduce stress.

At Under The Oak, we're here to support children and families every step of the way. Wishing everyone a happy, healthy, and successful school year! ๐ŸŒณ๐Ÿ’š

๐ŸŽ **Back-to-School Starts the Night Before! ๐Ÿ˜ด**

As the school year approaches, one of the best ways to help your child succeed is by getting their sleep schedule back on track.

A few simple changes can make those early school mornings much easier:

๐ŸŒ™ Start adjusting bedtime 1โ€“2 weeks before school by moving bedtime and wake-up time 15 minutes earlier every few days.

๐Ÿ“ฑ Turn off screens at least one hour before bedtime. The blue light from phones, tablets, and TVs can make it harder for children to fall asleep.

๐Ÿ“š Create a calming bedtime routine with activities like reading, taking a warm bath, or listening to quiet music.

โฐ Keep wake-up and bedtime consistentโ€”even on weekendsโ€”to help your child's body adjust.

๐Ÿ’ค Remember, quality sleep supports:
โœ”๏ธ Better attention and learning
โœ”๏ธ Improved mood and emotional regulation
โœ”๏ธ Stronger memory and problem-solving skills

A well-rested child is better prepared to learn, grow, and enjoy the new school year.

What bedtime routine works best for your family? We'd love to hear your favorite tips in the comments! ๐Ÿ’š
