Hello, September. 🧡

A new month. A new week of practice. And a new place to explore within ourselves.

Last week, we began at the root—grounding ourselves in safety, stability, strength and belonging.

This week, we move upward to the Sacral Chakra — Svadhisthana.

Located in the lower abdomen and pelvis, the Sacral Chakra is associated with emotion, creativity, pleasure, connection and our ability to move with the natural flow of life.

Its element is water—and we love that imagery for our practice this week.

Water doesn’t have to force its way forward.

It moves.
It adjusts.
It finds another way.
And it continues.

So this week on the mat, we’ll explore what happens when we give ourselves permission to do the same.

To move without forcing.
To feel without immediately trying to fix.
To create without judging.
To soften where we’ve been holding.
And to remember that strength doesn’t always mean staying rigid.

Sometimes strength is allowing yourself to flow.

Our words for the week:

I FEEL.
I FLOW.
I CREATE.

Welcome to September, Move Your Body Yoga.
Let’s see where this month takes us.

Just Get Here. We’ll move from there. 🧡

When you travel to Birmingham for the Birmingham Football Classic… and this is how last night began. 👀

75 mats. One room. One purpose.

Last night, we had the opportunity to bring yoga, breathwork, recovery and wellness to the Southern University Football Jaguars as they prepared for today.

We slowed things down. We breathed. We recovered. We reset. We visualized. We made space for the body and the mind to be ready for what comes next.

And today, they compete.

As a Southern alum and through Move Your Body Yoga’s corporate partnership with Southern University Athletics, there is something incredibly meaningful about being here and doing this work with our student-athletes.

We are proud of these young men. Proud of the work they’ve put in. And incredibly grateful that the work we love gets to meet them here — on game day.

Now go do what you came to Birmingham to do, Jags. 💙💛

Ending the week knowing who we are.

Rooted.
Safe.
Strong.
Grounded.
Connected.
Belonging to community.
Knowing our true selves.

This was the lesson this week at Move Your Body Yoga as we practiced, explored and learned more about the Root Chakra — Muladhara.

The root is our foundation. It reminds us that strength doesn’t always mean pushing harder. Sometimes strength is knowing where we stand. Trusting what supports us. Listening when our body speaks. Finding our footing when life feels shaky. And remembering that we can bend without unraveling.

Throughout the week, our Positive Thoughts gave us another way to carry the practice beyond the mat. We chose words like:

“I am building a strong foundation for my life.”
“When life gets shaky, I get grounded.”
“My body needs care, not criticism.”
“I bend. I do not unravel.”

Because what we repeatedly tell ourselves matters, too.

We move. We breathe. We learn. And sometimes, we simply come back to our foundation and remember:

I am here. I am grounded. I belong.

Wishing our Move Your Body Yoga community a beautiful, grounded weekend. ❤️

Three years. And so much to be thankful for.

What started as a place to help people move and find wellness in their bodies has become something much bigger—a community that I absolutely love.

There have been early mornings, long days, late evenings and more hours poured into this place than I could ever count. But that has always been the easy part to understand. You give your time to the things you love.

And I love this work.

I love seeing people walk through our doors and discover what their bodies can do. I love watching people get stronger, find their breath, make connections, laugh, rest and keep coming back.

But more than anything, I love the community we have built together.

So on our third anniversary, this really is just a thank you.

Thank you for walking through the door.
Thank you for trusting us.
Thank you for supporting this business.
Thank you for being part of Move Your Body Yoga.

Three years down, and there is still so much ahead of us.

Happy Anniversary to our Move Your Body Yoga.
Move. Breathe. Glow.

xoxo, Kim Walker

Guess who’s turning THREE? 🎉

On August 26, Move Your Body Yoga celebrates three years of moving, breathing, growing, showing up and building community together.

Three years of Just Get Here.
Three years of meeting ourselves on the mat exactly where we are.
Three years of discovering just how strong we can be — together.

And we wouldn’t have a birthday without the people who have filled this studio with energy, laughter, sweat, encouragement and connection.

We’re celebrating all day tomorrow! Come move with us, and join us for refreshments following our 6:15 PM class.

Spaces are limited, so reserve your mat.

Here’s to THREE. And everything still ahead. 💚

The work doesn’t stop at strength, speed and conditioning.

Last evening, we slowed it all the way down.

With the first big game of the season in Birmingham ahead, our Southern University Football Jaguars continued their preparation with a restorative yoga practice; red light therapy, breath work, Root Chakra practice for grounding, deep hip opening and intentional rest.

Because preparation isn’t only about what the body can produce. It’s also about whether the mind can stay focused, the breath can stay steady, and the nervous system can regulate when the pressure rises.

We worked on grounding.
We worked on releasing tension.
We worked on creating space in the body.
And then—we rested.

“I bend. I do not unravel.”

That was the message.

There is strength in knowing when to push, and there is strength in knowing when to soften. The goal is balance: supporting our student-athletes physically while also giving them tools for focus, recovery and nervous-system regulation.

I’m proud that through Move Your Body Yoga, our support of Southern University Athletics can include this part of the work, too.

The season is here.

Stay grounded. Stay focused.

Let’s go Jags. 🩵💛🐆

Sometimes community is simply answering when someone reaches out. 💙

A special thank you to the Southern University Child Development Laboratory (SUCDL) sharing their vision for a Creative Movement Room for their children and asking if Move Your Body Yoga could help.

We could. And we did.

We donated custom yoga mats for their new space, and now we get to see these little ones actually using them—sitting, breathing, stretching, moving and learning.

That means everything.

Movement in early childhood can be such a beautiful part of learning—supporting balance, coordination, strength, body awareness and focus, while giving children opportunities to experience both movement and stillness.

And there’s another part of this story that makes it even more special.

Through another community connection,we met LaRonda of Community Imprints, and she was truly a godsend. We instantly connected around the vision for these mats, and she brought the finishing touch—beautifully adding the logos that made each mat feel intentional and created specifically for these children and their new space.

That’s community, too. One connection leading to another. People bringing what they have to the table and coming together to create something that can build and grow a community. LaRonda, thank you for helping us bring this vision to life. 💙

We knew this was something Move Your Body Yoga could pour into.

Their beautiful public thank-you was completely unexpected and deeply appreciated. But seeing these children on those mats?

That is the thank-you.

This is what community can look like: someone shares a need, someone else has the ability to help, another person brings their gift—and together, we create something meaningful for the people coming behind us.

Thank you to Ms. Meka and the entire Southern University Child Development Laboratory family for allowing Move Your Body Yoga to be a small part of what you are building for these children. 💙💛

Mobility isn’t about how far you can stretch.

It’s about how well your body can move — with control, strength and ease.

Sometimes the work is big movement.
Sometimes it’s subtle.
And sometimes it starts exactly here: slow down, breathe, and notice what your body is telling you.

Before you push deeper into a stretch, ask yourself:

Can I breathe here?
Can I control the movement?
Can I move without forcing it?

That’s mobility, too.

Move with intention.
Let your breath lead you.
