Sundays can be hard to enjoy if you have anxiety about the upcoming week. Here are some ways to get through those Sunday Scaries and enjoy yourself before Monday rolls around:
1) Start fresh: Some people find that the week is less overwhelming if they start with a clean slate. If you’re up for it, try tidying up your space and making room for the new week. Sundays are a great day to change bed linens, do laundry, clean, or meal prep.
2) Make a list: Write out your tasks for the week and the things that are making you anxious. Lists can help you visualize your priorities and de-clutter your brain. Writing down your anxieties can make them seem a little less overwhelming. In our heads, anxiety feels like a looming monster! On paper, it’s smaller and more easily defeated!
3) Unplug: Constantly checking your email or getting stuck in the news/social media scroll of doom doesn’t do us any good. If you’re able, take some time away from your phone and computer. It’s easier to be present in the things that you enjoy when the devices aren’t calling your name.
4) Make time for people, pets, and things that you love: Even if it’s just for an hour, remember to do something that makes you feel relaxed and happy! Whether this is taking a nap on the couch with your dog, playing board games with your family, or having a spa day, these activities can help quash some of the Sunday anxiety and set you up for a better week ahead.
5) Do absolutely nothing: Sometimes what we really need is genuine rest and time to be still. There is no shame in spending a Sunday in bed with your favorite book or movie. There is no shame in sleeping in or taking a long nap. Your value is not tied to your productivity. Sometimes doing nothing is the best way to prepare for a busy week!
