Many of us still recall exactly where we were and what we were doing when we first learned of the 9/11 attacks. We watched live video in horror as the events unfolded.

We remember the lives lost that day, along with the courage of first responders and ordinary people who took action. Our hope is that their memory will perpetually be honored.

We stand in support of those with those still living with lasting physical and mental health effects from the tragedy. 💙

Further evidence that physical and mental are indeed connected...

A person's posture appears to affect their emotions and decision-making ability more than they realize, according to new research from McGill University. In a recent study, participants sitting upright performed better at a risk-taking task and reported more positive feelings than did their peers in...

As you gear up to celebrate Labor Day weekend, we invite you to focus on your workplace-related mental health. Stress and chronic burnout are widespread issues.

This holiday weekend offers an opportunity for cognitive recovery, so use it to support your well-being.
1️⃣ Disconnect Deliberately - Establish a firm boundary by silencing work notifications.
2️⃣ Prioritize Rest - Remember that rest is a biological necessity, not a reward you have to earn.
3️⃣ Connect Mindfully - Actively counter the urge to isolate by spending unhurried, quality time with loved ones.

If a long weekend is no longer enough to help you recover, it may be a sign that you need to seek professional help or to make other changes.

Wishing everyone a safe and restorative Labor Day weekend. 💙

🖤 Today we remember those lost to overdose. Use of opioids, alcohol, other depressants, stimulants (including crystal m**h), or several newer psychoactive substances can result in overdose. Signs vary, but here are some common red flags:
- Unresponsiveness or inability to wake
- Slow, irregular, or stopped breathing
- Blue/grey lips or fingertips
- Unusual snoring or gurgling
- Seizures, extreme agitation, or overheating

❓What to do❓
- Call emergency services right away and stay on the line.
- Put an unresponsive person on his/her side with airway open.
- Stay with the person -- never leave someone alone to “sleep it off.”
- If opioids are involved and you have naloxone/Narcan, use it.

What NOT to do --
🚫Don’t give food, drink, or induce vomiting.
🚫Don’t put someone in a cold shower or walk him/her around.

💜💛 College Football Has Arrived…and so have the mood swings 😅

As you gear up for another season, your nervous system might already be running its own 2‑minute drill. Football isn’t "just a sport" here!

A few mental health tips to keep you grounded this season:
🏈 Set boundaries by limiting the number of times you let yourself rewatch that bad play
🏈 Practice mindful breathing during 4th‑quarter nail‑biters
🏈 Stay connected by celebrating wins (and venting losses) with friends
🏈 Remember that your team’s performance is not a reflection of your worth...even if your belligerent uncle insists otherwise at the tailgate

Whether the season record ends up fantastic or gives you heartburn, set yourself up to successfully navigate the highs and lows. Wishing everyone an emotionally balanced season! 💛💙

Happy National Dog Day!
🐾 Dogs support our mental health more than many realize. Research shows dogs can reduce anxiety, increase oxytocin, and support emotional regulation. And most importantly, sometimes a wagging tail is our reminder that we’re not alone. 🐾

♨ While enduring the extreme heat this summer, have you noticed changes in your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors? 🤔 If so, you're not alone.

☀Our brains are temperature sensitive. Elevated temperatures can affect our emotional regulation, impulse control, and rational decision-making.
☀Heat is a potent sleep disruptor. We've posted several times on the impacts of poor sleep on a person's mental health.
☀Heat raises our cortisol levels and produces other physical stress responses that affect mental health.
☀Dehydration is more common during heat exposure, and dehydration increases anxiety, fatigue, and cognitive impairment even before thirst is perceived.
☀Some psychiatric medications impair heat regulation, making people on those medications more vulnerable to heat.

Things that can help: Access air conditioning when able...Seek tree shade when outdoors...Discuss meds with the prescribing doctor if needed...Adequately hydrate...Avoid peak-sun exposure...and Wish for an early fall season. 🍂

✏️ Back‑to‑school season brings excitement and sometimes anxiety for kids.
