After 20 years of marriage, after you've hurt each other, forgiven, and chosen to stay—how do you actually adore each other?

My friend asked me this after church, and it got me thinking about what we're all navigating in middle marriage. Because it's not about morning breath or bad snoring habits. It's about the scar tissue. The promises broken and kept again. The words spoken that could've peeled paint off walls.

You know what you should do. So why is it still so hard to change?

Sometimes the patterns we want to stop were once the very things that helped us cope. Anxiety, shutting down, numbing out, pulling away — they may have started as protection, but now they might be keeping you stuck.

Real change begins when we stop asking, "Why can't I just stop?" and start asking, "What is really underneath this?" God sees the whole story, even the parts you are still learning to understand.
