First responders across Livingston Parish are Geauxing Pink this October. ๐Ÿ’—

Through the โ€œThin Pink Lineโ€ campaign, nearly a dozen local departments and organizations have wrapped vehicles in pink to raise breast cancer awareness and support survivorship services for those impacted by cancer in our community, including Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center.

Itโ€™s a powerful example of what Geaux Pink is all about: bringing people together in meaningful ways to support patients, survivors and families throughout the cancer journey.

Weโ€™re grateful to the Denham Springs City Marshal, first responders and community partners across Livingston Parish for helping turn awareness into action!

Thank you to WBRZ Channel 2 for sharing the story. Read more at the link in the first comment.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month: your reminder to know when you should be screened. ๐ŸŽ—๏ธ

For women at average risk, annual clinical breast exams and mammograms are recommended starting at age 40. If you have a family history of breast cancer or other risk factors, talk with your healthcare provider about whether you may need additional or earlier screening.

Screening can help find breast cancer before symptoms appear, when there may be more options for successful treatment. ๐Ÿฉท

๐Ÿ’ก Knowing your risk, what changes to watch for and when to get screened can help you take a more active role in your breast health.

Advanced cancer research is happening right here in Baton Rouge. ๐Ÿ’œ

In a recent WAFB Channel 9 feature, Dr. William Varnado, medical oncologist at Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, discusses a clinical trial for women with hormone-positive breast cancer.

The study is evaluating a newer treatment approach designed to target cancer cells more directly, while also helping patients better understand when clinical trials may be an option.

Weโ€™re proud to offer access to innovative research and treatment close to home. Read the full story at the link in the first comment.

Our team loved starting Breast Cancer Awareness Month alongside Baton Rouge General Medical Center at this yearโ€™s Protect Your Pumpkins celebration. ๐Ÿ’—๐ŸŽƒ

From the pink pumpkin patch to the new Survivor Sunrise, the morning was a meaningful opportunity to celebrate breast cancer survivors, connect with our community and help shine a light on the importance of early detection and staying up to date on recommended mammograms.

Weโ€™re grateful to our team members who joined in the celebration and excited to continue partnering with Baton Rouge General to support patients, survivors and families throughout the cancer journey.

Hereโ€™s to a month filled with awareness, connection and a shared commitment to breast health. ๐ŸŽ€

๐Ÿ’— October is here, Baton Rouge, and itโ€™s time to GEAUX PINK!

Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center is kicking off our annual Geaux Pink campaign, presented by Super Chevy Dealers, and weโ€™re excited to share this yearโ€™s exclusive Sweet Baton Rouge design: โ€œTiger Iris.โ€ ๐Ÿ…๐Ÿ’œ

Created by Ashleigh LeRouge Design, Tiger Iris brings together two powerful symbols: the tiger, representing the fight and fierceness of those impacted by cancer, and the Louisiana iris, representing hope and home.

This yearโ€™s design is a reminder that Geaux Pink is about more than wearing a color, itโ€™s about rallying behind our friends, family members and neighbors affected by cancer and helping ensure they have access to the care and support they need right here in our community.

Throughout October, individuals, businesses, schools and teams across the area can Geaux Pink to support Mary Bird Perkins and help provide services including free cancer screenings, patient assistance and other resources for those facing cancer.

A strong turnout and an important step toward early detection. ๐Ÿ’œ

At this yearโ€™s Barbershop Bash Bayou in Morgan City, we provided 90 free colorectal and prostate cancer screenings, and 20% of those screened had never been screened before.

Hosted at Skinnerโ€™s Barbershop, the event brought cancer screening directly into the community alongside biometric screenings, health vendors, food, music and family-friendly activities.

Thank you to everyone who came out, encouraged someone to get screened or helped make the day possible. Reaching people where they are can make an important difference in helping more individuals take charge of their health.

Advanced technology can change the way cancer is treated. Human connection can change the way that treatment is experienced. ๐Ÿ’œ

In a recent feature from NOLA.com, Patrick Dunne shares how both became central to his cancer journey at Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center.

After concerning symptoms led him to Dr. Scott Delacroix, urologic oncologist at Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center in Metairie, Patrick learned his cancer was advanced and would require a specialized treatment approach. Dr. Delacroix helped guide him through his options, including treatment with the Elekta Unity MRI-guided adaptive radiation therapy system in Baton Rouge.

But alongside that advanced care came something just as memorable, the relationships Patrick built with the team around him.

From conversations about opera and fashion to small moments of encouragement during treatment, Patrick found a level of connection that helped make a difficult experience feel deeply personal.

Today, he is in remission and sharing his story so others facing cancer know what comprehensive care can look like.

When Paul Miller learned he had prostate cancer, he found a team at Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center in Covington that helped him feel confident about what came next. But when he looks back on his experience, it's not only the treatment he remembers...
It's Dr. Elson taking the time to listen. His nurse, Brianna, answering his questions. And Roy in guest services greeting him with a kindness that made difficult days feel a little easier.

โ€œWhen youโ€™re going in for treatment, youโ€™re worried and anxious and youโ€™re scared,โ€ Paul said. โ€œAnd Roy just had this really profound effect on me.โ€

Paul's story reminds us that expert cancer care is about more than the treatment itself. It's also about the people who help you feel cared for along the way. ๐Ÿ™Œ

What a meaningful way to celebrate 55 years of mission, generosity and impact. ๐Ÿ’œ

This past Sunday, Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center hosted IGNITE, our inaugural brunch celebrating the extraordinary role philanthropy plays in helping us improve survivorship and lessen the burden of cancer.

Surrounded by longtime supporters, friends and partners, we reflected on the vision first set in motion by our founders, Anna B. Lipsey and Dr. M.J. Rathbone, Jr., a belief that every person facing cancer should have access to exceptional care close to home.

That vision continues today because of the generosity of those who invest in our mission and help make advanced treatment, early detection, research, education and support possible for patients and families across the region.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for IGNITE and to all who continue helping carry this legacy forward!

๐Ÿ“ธ Take a look at a few moments from a very special afternoon.

If youโ€™d like to help carry this mission forward, learn more about ways to invest in Mary Bird Perkins at the link in the first comment.

A cancer diagnosis can come with a lot of questions. You don't have to find every answer on your own. ๐Ÿซถ

At Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, patient navigation is an important part of how we care for patients and families. Our navigation team includes registered nurses, social workers and dietitians dedicated to helping patients overcome barriers and access the medical and psychosocial support they need.

That can mean answering questions, coordinating care, arranging transportation, connecting patients with specialists and support services, and helping families understand what comes next.

From pre-diagnosis through treatment and survivorship, our navigators are there to help make the path forward feel a little clearer. โค๏ธ It's another way we're working to provide comprehensive cancer care centered around each individual patient.
