Special thanks to these volunteers from St. Joseph's Academy - Baton Rouge, Our Lady of Mercy School and The Dunham School! The students helped with our food distribution for the food insecure in our area.

Three of our team members - Meg Mahoney, Maria Hoover and Lili Pena - attended the Catholic Legal Immigration Network, Inc. (CLINIC) Convening. This conference brings together legal practitioners, advocates and nonprofit leaders from all over the country to network, learn, and gain insight about the current state of immigration law. Maria was also able to catch up with some of our colleagues at Catholic Charities USA - Emily Norton and Christopher Ross. Thanks to the Louisiana Bar Foundation, our team members are afforded opportunities to learn about comprehensive education on immigration law, program management and advocacy!

A few of our staff members traveled to St. Margaret, Queen of Scotland Catholic Church in Albany to help register individuals and families experiencing food insecurity for the Faith-Full Food Program. Through this program, eligible participants can receive USDA-approved food boxes, helping ensure more neighbors have access to nutritious meals. We’re grateful to partner in this mission of serving our community with dignity and compassion.

Kiera Meuse-Cash attended National Council for Adoption in DC this week!

Practitioners participated in Advocacy Day on Capitol Hill with the National Council For Adoption. The topic of discussion was the ADOPT Act to advocate for making the federal adoption tax credit (currently over $18,000) fully refundable. Right now, only $5,000 of that credit is refundable, and expanding it would make adoption more accessible for so many families!

This week was spent connecting with passionate people who are doing incredible work in the adoption community.
