Closing out Mental Health Month with creativity, connection, and a reminder that caring for our behavioral health is important every day. 💚

It was wonderful to celebrate Lisa, the winner of our Mental Health Month t-shirt design contest! Lisa’s design captured the spirit of awareness, hope, and support in a meaningful way, and it was exciting to see her creativity represented throughout Summit Pointe during Mental Health Month. Thank you, Lisa, for sharing your talent and helping spark important conversations across our organization and community.

Moments like this remind us that creativity, connection, and shared purpose can make a lasting impact.

Several years ago, Rep. Frisbie introduced me to Stephanie Swanson Chang after the tragic loss of her son. Her son struggled with behavioral health symptoms and was unable to access timely care when he needed it most. The very systems that were supposed to support him created barriers instead.

That conversation stayed with me. Hearing directly about the challenges families faced accessing behavioral health care helped shape the decision to fully implement and open First Step, Summit Pointe’s Psychiatric Urgent Care Center, in 2021 creating a low-barrier access point for individuals and families in Calhoun County experiencing a behavioral health crisis.

Since then, First Step has become an important community resource, and I remain thankful not only for that introduction, but for the relationship that followed. Stephanie and I did not meet just once but over the years we have continued to meet, collaborate, and advocate for better behavioral health care in our community. Today, Stephanie serves on the Summit Pointe Board, continuing to be a strong voice and advocate for individuals and families navigating behavioral health challenges in Calhoun County. I’m honored to introduce Dr. Anita Harvey, assistant superintendent at Battle Creek Public Schools and a valued member of the Summit Pointe Board of Directors. At Summit Pointe, we know the mental health needs of young people don’t stop at the classroom door, and neither does the support they deserve. Dr. Harvey works alongside students, families, and educators every day, helping bridge the gaps that can stand in the way of learning, growth, and well-being.

In our latest Summit Pointe Podcast episode, Dr. Harvey shares why social emotional learning must be part of the conversation alongside academics, and how schools and community mental health providers can work together to better support children and families. Her perspective is thoughtful, practical, and deeply resonent in today's learning environment. I hope you’ll take a few minutes to listen to this important conversation.

Mission-Driven Boards. That’s the Pointe. 💜

I had the opportunity to represent Summit Pointe at several community events recently, and each one reminded me how important it is for us to stay connected, visible, and engaged with the people we serve and our community partners.

Some of the best conversations happen outside of meetings and offices — listening, learning, and sharing the work we are doing together to support mental health and wellness in our community. Thank you Regina for attending with me and to everyone who took the time to talk with us.

At Summit Pointe, our mission doesn’t stop at our front doors. We’re coming to your screens, your newspaper, your community events, your schools, and wherever you get your podcasts — all to make it easier for people to understand what support is available and how to take that first step. The more we can talk openly about mental health, the more we can reduce stigma and help people know they don’t have to struggle alone.

This article shares more about the work our team has been doing across Calhoun County to connect people with care, reach people earlier, and show up in the places where support is needed most. I’m proud of the thoughtful work happening every day to help more people feel informed, supported, and connected to the resources they need.

During National Police Week, I want to recognize and thank the dedicated officers and public safety professionals who serve our communities each day. 💙

This week is especially meaningful to me as both a community partner and a mom. I’m grateful for the compassion, professionalism, and commitment shown by those who step into difficult situations to help others.

I’m also love to see the partnerships built through Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training, where officers and community partners come together to strengthen responses to behavioral health crises and support safer outcomes for everyone.

Thank you to everyone who helped make Friday’s All-Staff Event such a positive and memorable experience! We had a great afternoon bringing our team together and are so grateful for the energy, engagement, and participation from everyone who attended.

It was a meaningful opportunity to connect as an organization, reflect on our shared mission, and celebrate the important work being done every day.

A highlight of the afternoon was our guest speaker, Julie, who shared an inspiring message about the importance of how we show up—for one another and for those we serve. Her words were a powerful reminder of the impact we can make when we lead with purpose and compassion.
