🕯️ We don’t just carry the lamp.

We carry their stories. Their sacrifice.
We carry their legacy.

And as long as we remember, no nurse is ever forgotten. 🤍

Carry the lamp. Honor the legacy. Keep the light burning.

Chapter Leader and Assistant Chapter Leader joined first responders and members of the community for Saline County’s first First Responder Su***de Prevention Day Candlelight Vigil, hosted by "Carry the Light."

The evening honored the memory of EMT Brittney, whose life was lost to su***de on September 1, 2017, and carried a simple but powerful message:
“When someone cannot find the light themselves, others can carry it for them.”

Saline County Judge Matt Brumley also proclaimed September 1, 2026, as First Responder Su***de Prevention Day in Saline County.
May we continue to remember those lost, support those who serve, and help carry the light for those who are struggling. 🕯️💙

If you or a first responder you know is struggling or in crisis, help is available.
You can call or text 988 or chat at 988lifeline.org in the United States and Canada to reach the Su***de & Crisis Line.

A candlelight gathering on the Saline County Courthouse lawn Tuesday evening honored first responders who have died by su***de while reminding those who continue to serve that they are not alone.

Walking Through Grief Together - Week Seven- August 28, 2026.

🌿 The First Holidays Without Them

There is something about a holiday, birthday, anniversary, or family tradition that has a way of reminding us just how much someone is missed. The empty chair at the table. The favorite recipe no one else quite makes the same. The Christmas ornament they always hung. The birthday phone call that will never come. These moments can catch us off guard, even when we think we're prepared.

If you are facing your first holiday or special occasion without someone you love, please know that whatever you are feeling is okay.
You may feel joy one moment and tears the next. You may decide to keep every tradition
Or you may decide to begin a few new ones.
Neither choice is wrong.

Grief doesn't follow a calendar, and healing doesn't require you to celebrate the way you always have.

👣 A Gentle Step for This Week
As you approach a special day, make a simple plan.
• Decide what feels right for you and your family.
• Light a candle in their memory.
• Share your favorite story about them.
• Prepare their favorite dessert.
• Visit a place they loved.
• Or simply give yourself permission to quietly remember.
There is no "right" way to honor someone you love. There is only the way that brings peace to your heart.

👩‍⚕️A Nurse's Perspective
As nurses, we've learned that healing often comes through honoring what matters most.
Families who find meaningful ways to remember their loved one often discover that remembrance doesn't deepen grief...It transforms it into gratitude. The tears may still come. But so will the smiles.

🌿 A Little Hope
The first holiday may be the hardest.
The second may still bring tears.
But little by little, you'll discover something beautiful.
The traditions don't end... they simply change.
Your loved one's place in your family will never be replaced. Instead, their memory becomes woven into every gathering, every story, every laugh, and every act of love you continue to share.
Love doesn't disappear because someone is no longer sitting at the table, it simply finds a new way to be present.

💙 If today feels especially heavy, remember this:
Grief is not a sign that you are weak. It is a reflection of how deeply you loved. You do not have to rush your healing. Give yourself permission to feel, to remember, to rest, and to hope. One day, the memories that bring tears today will also bring smiles. Until then... take this journey one step at a time.

💙 We'd Love to Hear From You
If you're comfortable, share one holiday tradition or special memory that reminds you of someone you love.
By sharing their story, you're helping keep their legacy alive—and your words may bring comfort to someone walking a similar path.
Because every life has a story...
And every story deserves to be remembered.

🇺🇸🕯️ September 11 Remembrance Ceremonies — 25 Years Later 🕯️🇺🇸

As September quickly approaches, Legacy Keepers Nurse Honor Guard of Arkansas is already preparing for a day that changed our nation forever.

September 11, 2001.

A day when we were reminded just how quickly life can change—and how suddenly the sense of safety we had taken for granted could be shattered.

That morning, we lost far more than buildings.
We lost 2,977 precious lives.
Among them were 343 firefighters, 71 law-enforcement officers—including 60 members of the NYPD and Port Authority Police Department—and 8 private EMTs and paramedics.
And among the lives lost were 11 nurses.
Some were working as nurses.
Some were passengers.
Some were firefighters and police officers who also carried the education, heart, and calling of a nurse. But each of them belonged to our profession.

On September 11, terrorists attacked our nation here at home. We lost lives, landmarks, and for many Americans, a sense of security we had never before questioned.
But what happened in the hours and days that followed also showed us something about who we are.
When others were running away from danger, first responders ran toward it.
Strangers helped strangers.
Healthcare workers stood ready.
Communities came together.
And a nation grieving unimaginable loss promised: We will never forget!

Now, twenty-five years later, Legacy Keepers Nurse Honor Guard of Arkansas has been given the tremendous honor of participating in three Central Arkansas remembrance ceremonies as our communities keep that promise. We hope you will plan on joining us in keeping the promise To Never Forget!
