🧡💚 Why did PsychSolutions sponsor Meet the Governor Candidates on Route 66? Because our kids deserve to be part of the conversation.

As a psychiatric nurse practitioner in Kansas, I see how much stability matters—especially for youth in foster care. When so much in a child’s life changes, their mental health care should be something they can count on.

I have been working with groups and Kansas legislators to advocate for continuity of mental health care for these children. I also prepared the Kansas Foster Youth Mental Health Stability Report for the Kansas Legislature to bring attention to gaps in care and the need for meaningful solutions.

These children need consistent treatment, communication between providers, and someone making sure their mental health needs don’t get lost in the shuffle. They deserve more than “we’ll figure it out later.”

Who is elected Kansas governor matters. Who is appointed Secretary of the Department for Children and Families matters. The priorities and leadership of those offices matter to the children and families relying on these systems.

That is why PsychSolutions is supporting this nonpartisan opportunity to meet the candidates, hear their priorities, and keep our community—and our children—in the conversation.

My advocacy doesn’t stop at the clinic door. These kids deserve stability, a voice, and adults willing to show up for them. I intend to keep showing up.

🎃 Calling all businesses, families, and Halloween-loving folks—we need YOUR trunks! 🎃

PsychSolutions is excited to team up with Baxter Springs Kiwanis Club for Trunk or Treat, and we’re inviting YOU to help make it special for our community’s kids! 🍬👻

Think about those little faces lighting up—the costumes they’re so proud of, the excited “trick or treat!” and the memories they’ll take home. Your trunk or table can be part of that magic. 💚

No elaborate decorations required! Bring some treats, a little Halloween spirit, and a friendly smile. Go all out or keep it simple—the kids will be thrilled you showed up!

🎃 Saturday, October 31
🕓 4–6 PM
📍 Kiwanis Park, Baxter Springs

Businesses, individuals, families, and community groups are welcome to host a trunk or table!

Come for the kids. Stay for the costumes. Try not to eat all your candy before they get there. 😉🍬

Let’s give our kids an evening to remember! Share this post and tag someone who should join us! 🧡

🧡💚 October is ADHD Awareness Month—let’s replace judgment with understanding.

ADHD can affect attention, organization, activity level, and impulse control. It begins in childhood and can continue into adulthood.

It isn’t a measure of intelligence, effort, or how much someone cares.

It may look like forgetting instructions, losing everyday items, struggling to finish tasks, interrupting, or feeling restless. Not everyone with ADHD is visibly hyperactive.

Support can make everyday life more manageable:
✅ Break tasks into smaller steps.
✅ Use reminders, checklists, and predictable routines.
✅ Give clear instructions and reduce distractions.
✅ Recognize strengths and celebrate progress.

Treatment is individualized and may include medication, therapy, parent behavior training, and school or workplace support.

Psychiatric medication: myth vs. fact

MYTH: If a psychiatric medication helped someone you know, it should work the same way for you.

FACT: Mental health treatment is individualized.

People can respond differently to the same medication. Diagnosis, symptoms, age, medical history, other medications, side effects, genetics, and personal goals may all affect treatment decisions.

Finding the right plan may take time and careful adjustment. That does not automatically mean treatment has failed.

Keep follow-up appointments, report benefits and side effects honestly, and never change or stop a psychiatric medication without discussing it with the prescribing provider.

Medication should be an ongoing conversation—not a one-time prescription.

Mental illness deserves compassion—not judgment.

People living with mental health conditions are our family members, friends, coworkers, neighbors, and community leaders. They are not weak, broken, dangerous, or defined by a diagnosis.

This Mental Illness Awareness Week, let’s replace judgment with curiosity, silence with conversation, and stigma with support.

You do not need to understand every part of someone’s experience to treat them with dignity.

One compassionate response can make it easier for someone to reach out for help. Please share this message and help us build a community where asking for help is seen as strength. 🧡💚

💙💛 Today kicks off Down Syndrome Awareness Month!

At PsychSolutions, this month is close to our hearts. Our founder Michele’s daughter, London, brings plenty of personality, determination, and sass—and reminds us how much it matters to be seen for who you are. 🧡💚

People with Down syndrome have their own interests, goals, feelings, and voices. They deserve meaningful friendships, opportunities, and care that listens.

This October, make the invitation. Take time to listen. Make room for someone to participate.

Belonging starts with us.

Anxiety is not always obvious—and it does not only exist in our thoughts.

It can also affect the body.

Someone experiencing anxiety may notice:

🧡 Muscle tension or jaw clenching
💚 Headaches or stomach discomfort
🧡 A racing heart or shortness of breath
💚 Difficulty sleeping
🧡 Fatigue or irritability
💚 Trouble concentrating or relaxing

Physical symptoms should not automatically be assumed to be anxiety. New, severe, or persistent symptoms deserve appropriate medical evaluation.

But when worry and physical symptoms begin interfering with school, work, relationships, sleep, or daily functioning, it may be time to seek mental health support.

Anxiety is treatable. You do not have to “just deal with it.”
