Bright Harbor Healthcare On October 18th, 2021 Ocean Mental Health Services became Bright Harbor Healthcare (BHH).

For over six decades, Bright Harbor Healthcare has delivered truly integrated care to individuals, families, and our community by meeting the needs of the whole person’s physical health, mental wellness, and substance use recovery. What began in 1959 as a single office with two dedicated counselors has grown exponentially. Today, we are comprised of more than 425 passionate professionals at 10 loc

ations throughout Ocean County and 1 in Monmouth County. “Building a better tomorrow, one life at a time” remains the backbone of our mission. However, the services we provide have continually evolved to meet the ever-changing needs of our community. We became Bright Harbor Healthcare because our current services include so much more than the organization’s original name implied. Our focus going forward is on integrated care and treating the whole person in a way that is tailored, and compassionate, and brings about overall improvement in the quality of consumers’ daily living. In 2018 we were one of the first mental health centers in the country to be recognized by SAMHSA as a Certified Community Behavioral Healthcare Center, capable of providing “Integrated Care”. That is, not just treating an individual’s mental health issue, but the whole person to provide overall physical health as well as mental wellness and addiction recovery. In addition to our core mental health, behavioral, and addiction services, BHH also provides primary care and an on-site pharmacy.

July is Disability Pride Month, a time to recognize and celebrate people with disabilities while raising awareness about the importance of accessibility, inclusion, and equal opportunity.

As we celebrate this month, it’s important to remember that not every disability is visible. Many people live with invisible disabilities, including mental health conditions, neurodivergence, and chronic illnesses. Leading with empathy and challenging assumptions can help create more understanding and supportive communities.

Disability Pride Month also commemorates the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) on July 26, 1990; a landmark civil rights law that helped expand protections and opportunities for people with disabilities. This month reminds us that inclusion starts with awareness, respect, and a commitment to making every person feel supported.
