Is your child smart… but school still feels harder than it should?

Maybe they lose their place while reading.
Maybe handwriting is a struggle.
Maybe they avoid homework, seem clumsy, fidget constantly, or become frustrated easily.

Many parents are surprised to learn that some of these challenges can be connected to retained primitive reflexes — early movement patterns that should naturally integrate as a child develops.

When these reflexes remain active, they can affect:

👁️ Visual development
📚 Reading & learning
⚖️ Balance & coordination
✏️ Handwriting & motor skills
🧠 Attention & focus

At Forest City Vision, we don’t just look at eyesight. We evaluate the visual and developmental foundations that support learning and movement — including testing for primitive reflexes and working on integration as part of a whole-child approach.

Your child may not be struggling because they aren’t trying hard enough.

They may simply need the right foundation.

🚨 THE FIRST REPORT CARD SHOULDN’T BE THE FIRST WARNING.

Back to school is here. In a few weeks, some parents and their teachers may start hearing:

“Reading is taking too long.”

“Homework has become a nightly battle.”

“They’re bright—but something isn’t clicking.”

If your child frequently loses their place, avoids reading, rubs their eyes, experiences headaches, or tires quickly during schoolwork, don’t simply wait and hope this year will be different.

These signs can have many causes. Sometimes, an undetected vision problem is one of the barriers.

Seeing 20/20 does not tell the whole story. It doesn’t necessarily show how efficiently a child’s eyes focus, track, work together or process visual information during sustained reading and classroom activities.

If last school year ended with concerns—or you’re already noticing signs—now is the time to identify or rule out a visual barrier.

Schedule a Developmental Vision Evaluation today.

Have you noticed your child covering one eye while reading or using a screen?

They may not be able to explain why—only that the task feels easier that way. Closing one eye can sometimes reduce blur, double vision, or confusion when the eyes are not coordinating comfortably.

Our newest article explains what parents can notice, why 20/20 eyesight may not tell the whole story, and when a Developmental Vision Evaluation may be appropriate.

If this school year was harder than it should have been for your child, don’t wait until next school year to find answers.

☀️ Summer appointments are already starting to fill up!

Our Developmental Vision Evaluations and Vision Therapy schedule has limited availability, and back-to-school season is always our busiest time of year 📚🚨

If your child struggled with reading, attention, homework, comprehension, losing their place while reading, or visual fatigue during the school year, summer is the perfect time to take action.

Without the daily demands of school, children can start building the visual skills needed for success before the new school year begins.

Don’t wait until September to discover there may be an underlying vision problem affecting learning.

Schedule your child’s Developmental Vision Evaluation today.

You feel steady at home—but the moment you enter a grocery store, the lights, aisles, moving carts, and crowded shelves leave you dizzy or disoriented.

After a concussion, busy visual environments can place extra demands on how vision and balance work together.

Our newest article explains why this happens, what patients and families can notice, and when a post-concussion vision evaluation may be appropriate.

“Everything looks fine… but something still feels off.” 🧠👀

After a concussion or traumatic brain injury, many people are told to rest—and wait.

But what if the problem isn’t just the brain…
👉 it’s how the brain and eyes are working together?

If you or your child are experiencing:
• Headaches or pressure behind the eyes
• Dizziness or balance problems
• Blurry or double vision
• Difficulty reading or focusing
• Light sensitivity
• Brain fog or fatigue
• Trouble returning to school, work, or sports

👉 These are often vision-related symptoms of concussion/TBI.

And they’re one of the most commonly missed pieces of recovery.

At Forest City Vision, we specialize in Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation—
targeting the visual and brain-based systems that are disrupted after injury.

We help patients:
✔ Restore visual clarity & stability
✔ Improve focus, tracking, and eye coordination
✔ Reduce headaches, dizziness, and fatigue
✔ Rebuild visual processing and cognitive efficiency
✔ Safely return to school, work, and sports

Because recovery is not just about time…
👉 it’s about targeted treatment.

And when the visual system is addressed properly—
real recovery can begin.
