Myopia (nearsightedness) isn’t always just about blurry distance vision.

For many children, there’s another important piece of the puzzle that often gets overlooked:

👁️ Binocular Vision

Binocular vision refers to how the eyes work together as a team — especially during near tasks like reading, homework, screens, and schoolwork.

When the visual system is under stress, children may:

* Hold reading very close
* Lose their place while reading
* Avoid near work
* Experience headaches or eye strain
* Struggle focusing between distances
* Spend excessive effort on school tasks

In some children, binocular vision dysfunctions can increase visual stress during near work and may contribute to progression of myopia over time.

That’s why comprehensive myopia management should look beyond glasses alone.

At Forest City Vision, we evaluate:
✔️ Eye teaming
✔️ Focusing skills
✔️ Eye tracking
✔️ Visual efficiency
✔️ Functional visual performance

By improving how the eyes work together, we can help reduce visual stress and support healthier visual development alongside myopia management strategies.

Because successful myopia management is not just about helping a child see clearly today — it’s about supporting the long-term function and health of their visual system.

If this school year was harder than it should have been for your child, don’t wait until next school year to find answers.

☀️ Summer appointments are already starting to fill up!

Our Developmental Vision Evaluations and Vision Therapy schedule has limited availability, and back-to-school season is always our busiest time of year 📚🚨

If your child struggled with reading, attention, homework, comprehension, losing their place while reading, or visual fatigue during the school year, summer is the perfect time to take action.

Without the daily demands of school, children can start building the visual skills needed for success before the new school year begins.

Don’t wait until September to discover there may be an underlying vision problem affecting learning.

Schedule your child’s Developmental Vision Evaluation today.

“Everything looks fine… but something still feels off.” 🧠👀

After a concussion or traumatic brain injury, many people are told to rest—and wait.

But what if the problem isn’t just the brain…
👉 it’s how the brain and eyes are working together?

If you or your child are experiencing:
• Headaches or pressure behind the eyes
• Dizziness or balance problems
• Blurry or double vision
• Difficulty reading or focusing
• Light sensitivity
• Brain fog or fatigue
• Trouble returning to school, work, or sports

👉 These are often vision-related symptoms of concussion/TBI.

And they’re one of the most commonly missed pieces of recovery.

At Forest City Vision, we specialize in Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation—
targeting the visual and brain-based systems that are disrupted after injury.

We help patients:
✔ Restore visual clarity & stability
✔ Improve focus, tracking, and eye coordination
✔ Reduce headaches, dizziness, and fatigue
✔ Rebuild visual processing and cognitive efficiency
✔ Safely return to school, work, and sports

Because recovery is not just about time…
👉 it’s about targeted treatment.

And when the visual system is addressed properly—
real recovery can begin.

🍓☀️ Sweetest delivery of the season! ☀️🍓

A huge thank you to one of our amazing patients and their family for bringing us these fresh, farm-picked strawberries straight from their farm! There’s nothing quite like locally grown berries to brighten our day and remind us of all the wonderful families we have the privilege of serving.

We are so grateful for your kindness, thoughtfulness, and support. These little gestures mean more than you know and are a reminder of the special relationships that make feel like a community, not just a practice.

Now the real question is… how many strawberries can the team eat before the day is over? 😋🍓

Thank you for making our office a little sweeter today!

“It’s not just what they see… it’s how their brain processes it.” 👀🧠

Your child can have 20/20 eyesight…
and still struggle to read, focus, remember, or keep up in school.

Why?

Because learning doesn’t just depend on eyesight—
it depends on Visual Information Processing (VIP).

That’s how the brain:
• Makes sense of what the eyes see
• Holds visual information in memory
• Tracks across a page
• Shifts focus and attention
• Connects vision to movement and understanding

When this system isn’t working efficiently, it can look like:
• Reading struggles or skipping lines
• Poor attention or “daydreaming”
• Messy handwriting or letter reversals
• Clumsiness or poor coordination
• Slow processing or mental fatigue
• Frustration, low confidence, or avoidance

👉 And too often… it’s misunderstood as a learning or behavioral issue.

At Forest City Vision, we go deeper.

We don’t just check eyesight—
we evaluate how your child’s brain processes visual information.

Then we build a personalized plan to improve:
✔ Visual processing speed
✔ Attention & focus
✔ Visual memory
✔ Eye tracking & coordination
✔ Reading efficiency & comprehension
✔ Confidence in school and life

Because these are trainable skills.

And when visual processing improves…
👉 learning gets easier
👉 confidence grows
👉 potential is unlocked

"If vision training is boiled down to merely eye exercises, you've missed the forest for the tree."

Many people believe vision therapy is simply doing eye exercises with tools like a Brock String, tracking charts, or balance activities.

But here's the question:

What is the brain learning while the activity is happening?

That's where the real therapy occurs.

In developmental optometry, success isn't measured by whether a patient can complete an exercise. It's measured by how the visual system adapts, integrates information, maintains awareness, coordinates both eyes, and applies those skills to real-world tasks like reading, learning, sports, and daily life.

This is why many patients tell us they've "already done vision training"—yet still struggle with symptoms and visual performance.

The activity is not the therapy.

The learning is the therapy.

In our newest blog, Dr. Zach Weinberg discusses why meaningful vision therapy goes far beyond eye exercises and why focusing only on the tool can cause us to miss the bigger picture.

➡️ Read the full article to discover why true visual change happens when we stop focusing on the exercise and start focusing on the visual system. https://visiontherapycleveland.com/post/Vision-Therapy-is-more-than-eye-exercises

“My child is smart… so why does school feel so hard?”

Maybe they lose their place while reading.
Maybe handwriting is a struggle.
Maybe they seem clumsy, overwhelmed, or have trouble focusing.

Many parents don’t realize that vision problems don’t always mean blurry vision.

Vision is more than seeing 20/20. It includes eye tracking, focusing, coordination, visual processing, and how the brain interprets information.

One often-overlooked factor?

Primitive Reflexes.

These are automatic movement patterns present in infancy that should naturally integrate as children grow. When they remain active, they can affect:

👁️ Eye tracking
📚 Reading & learning
✏️ Handwriting
⚖️ Balance & coordination
🧠 Attention & focus

Examples include:

• Moro Reflex → overwhelm & hypersensitivity
• ATNR → eye tracking & handwriting challenges
• TLR → posture & visual stability difficulties
• STNR → coordination & attention struggles
• Spinal Galant → posture & movement challenges

At Forest City Vision, we look beyond eyesight alone. We test and work on integrating primitive reflexes to help children build stronger foundations for learning and development.

Because when we address the root cause, children don’t just cope—

they thrive.
