It is with heavy hearts that we join our brothers and sisters in the fire service in mourning the unexpected passing of Past Captain Joseph E. “Joe” Diehl.

Joe proudly served with the Beachwood Volunteer Fire Department before continuing his service with the Pine Beach Volunteer Fire Company. Throughout his years in the fire service, Joe was known for his dedication, compassion, and willingness to help anyone in need. His impact on our community and those who had the privilege to serve alongside him will never be forgotten.

Joe’s legacy of service continues through his son, Michael, who proudly served with Beachwood EMS before continuing his career as a firefighter/EMT with Horry County Fire Rescue in South Carolina.

On behalf of everyone at Beachwood EMS, we extend our deepest condolences to Michael, the Diehl family, and all of Joe’s friends and brothers and sisters in the fire service.

🇺🇸 Beachwood EMS was proud to provide EMS coverage for the Beachwood 4th of July Fireworks Celebration at Beachwood Beach!

Our crews were on hand throughout the event to help ensure everyone had a safe and enjoyable evening. From the start of the festivities through the overnight hours following the fireworks, our dedicated volunteers handled a total of 10 calls for service. These included responses within our primary coverage area as well as mutual aid assignments assisting neighboring communities during a particularly busy evening, especially as storms moved through the area.

We are always grateful for the support of our mutual aid partners and are equally proud to lend a hand whenever our neighboring agencies need assistance. Working together helps ensure our communities continue to receive the high level of emergency care they deserve.

Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate responsibly, and to our public safety partners for helping make the event a success. We hope everyone had a safe and happy Independence Day! 🇺🇸

Last night’s storm impacted the Borough of Beachwood. The fire department and police department worked through the night to mitigate the hazards as they came in and continue to do do this morning. Multiple homes were struck with trees, wires and trees still remain down throughout town.

There are still multiple incidents active as we await the power company.
Please treat any wire down as a LIVE wire. PLEASE do not cross barricades that have been placed to establish safe areas.

Call us if you find any wires down.
Mayor Cairns is out with us accessing damage as we work with the power company.

🇺🇸 Happy Independence Day from Beachwood EMS! 🇺🇸

Today, members of Beachwood EMS are proud to participate in the Pine Beach and Ocean Gate Independence Day parades. If you see our members along the parade routes, please take a moment to say hello!

This evening, our crews will be providing medical coverage during the Beachwood Fireworks Celebration to help ensure a safe and enjoyable event for all attendees. A medical tent will be staffed and available at Beachwood Beach throughout the event should anyone require medical assistance.

With today’s high temperatures, we encourage everyone to stay hydrated, wear lightweight clothing, apply sunscreen, and take frequent breaks in the shade. Heat-related illnesses can develop quickly, so please take precautions and seek assistance if you or someone nearby begins feeling unwell.

As you travel to and from tonight’s festivities, please remain alert and use extra caution. Increased pedestrian and vehicle traffic is expected throughout the area. Help keep everyone safe by watching for pedestrians, following traffic directions, and allowing extra time to reach your destination.

🌡️ EXTREME HEAT WARNING 🌡️

Dangerous heat is expected over the next few days. Stay hydrated, stay cool, and check on family, friends, neighbors, and pets.

Know the signs of heat-related illness—and if someone becomes confused, loses consciousness, or has signs of heat stroke, call 911 immediately.

⚠️🥵 An Extreme Heat Warning has been issued for all of SE PA, northern DE, and much of NJ, where dangerous heat will begin Wednesday through Saturday. The watch remains in effect for far southern NJ, barrier islands, and Delmarva.

High temperatures of 95-105° and heat indices of 100-110° are expected each day, hottest Thursday through Friday. This includes area beaches and mountainous areas, which will not offer much relief from this extreme heat event. Plan accordingly if you are traveling for the holiday weekend.

⚠️🔥 One day left of the oppressively hot and humid conditions to close out the week. A few severe thunderstorms will be possible again this afternoon and evening, but not everyone will get a storm. It will turn much less humid for Saturday, but high temperatures will remain in the upper 80s to near 90°.

If you must spend any extended time outdoors today, make sure to stay hydrated and take frequent breaks. Stay cool out there, and remain alert for changing conditions this afternoon and evening!
