"Today was one of those moments I knew would eventually come. Kay Wiens brought me lunch and officially told me she will no longer be volunteering with us.
For those who may not know Kay, she was one of the original hospice nurses here in Gage County. She is truly the OG of hospice—someone who poured her whole heart into this work long before it was what we know today. She helped push for Medicare certification, fought to make hospice sustainable, and did it all back when hospice in Gage County was entirely volunteer‑run.
Kay’s legacy is woven into the foundation of home health and hospice in our community. But it’s also woven into her friendships, her kindness, and the way she has shown up for people for decades.
I’ve learned so much from her. She is an incredible human, an extraordinary woman, and a dear friend.
If you see Kay around, please take a moment to thank her—not only for her years as a volunteer, but for everything she has done to build, strengthen, and love this community. We are better because of her."

Today we want to extend a heartfelt thank‑you to Grant Shaw, our pilot, and Chad Lottman, the owner of the plane that made a very special flight possible. Their generosity allowed the plane to fly from Beatrice to Fairbury, so we didn’t have to transport our patient by ground.
Grant went above and beyond by taking Norman on a meaningful flight over the Diller cemetery and over his home, giving him a moment of connection and reflection that meant so much.
Included in the group photo are Norman, his sister Ruth, brother‑in‑law Steve, niece Stacey, Andrew and Chelsie from Heritage Care Center, Cotton Wood Hospice volunteer Moriah, and Volunteer Coordinator Shannon. It was a moment filled with care, teamwork, and genuine kindness.
A special shout‑out as well to Lindy at Heritage Care Center for getting needed items and Sandy at the Fairbury Airport for her support and hospitality. After the flight we took Norman and his family out for an amazing lunch at Griffey's Steakhouse!!
Grateful for every person who helped make this day smooth, safe, and full of heart!

We did it again. And we are so proud of this continued 5 star accomplishment.

What Are CAHPS Scores in Hospice Care?

CAHPS stands for “Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems”. In hospice care, these scores come from surveys completed by family members or caregivers after their loved one receives hospice services.
The survey measures how well a hospice team supports patients and families in areas such as:
-Communication with families
-Timeliness of help
-Pain and symptom management
-Emotional and spiritual support
-Respect and dignity for the patient
-Training families on caregiving
-Overall satisfaction and willingness to recommend the hospice
These scores are important because they reflect the real experiences of families during one of life’s most important moments.
Hospice CAHPS results are publicly reported by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and help families compare hospice providers.

Thank you for trusting us to walk with your loved ones home. We are so blessed by the communities we serve. 🌳🤍
