Our residency program continues to grow with outstanding physicians dedicated to learning and serving Southeast Texas. Meet Dr. Prince Kumar, one of our newest Internal Medicine residents!

What made you want to become a physician?
Inspired by his father’s dedication to helping others, Dr. Kumar was drawn to medicine as a way to serve people, make a meaningful impact, and build lasting connections. He believes medicine provides a unique opportunity to combine knowledge, compassion, and service to improve the lives of others.

Fun fact:
Growing up, Dr. Kumar was always passionate about sports. He spent many years playing cricket and soccer, and recently discovered a new love for padel tennis. Whether on the field or the court, he enjoys the teamwork, competition, and friendships that come with sports.

Why he chose Baptist:
Dr. Kumar chose Baptist because of its supportive learning environment, strong clinical training, and commitment to developing well rounded physicians. He was looking for a residency program where he could continue to grow as a clinician while being part of a close-knit community that values teamwork, mentorship, and compassionate patient care.

Say hello to Dr. Shahid! As one of our newest Internal Medicine residents, they're beginning an exciting new chapter at Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas, and we're thrilled to have them on board.

What made you want to become a physician?
Growing up in Karachi, Pakistan, I always dreamed of becoming a physician. I was inspired by the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives during some of their most vulnerable moments. Medicine combines science, critical thinking, and compassion in a way that deeply resonates with me. As the first physician in my family, this journey has been especially meaningful, and I’m incredibly grateful to now be living that dream.

Do you have a hidden talent or a fun fact you would like to share?
A fun fact about me is that I have always been deeply passionate about sports, especially soccer and cricket. Growing up in Karachi, I played soccer competitively at the district level and have always enjoyed the energy and excitement that comes with the game. Outside of medicine, you will often find me at the gym, exploring my interest in cars, or planning a long drive to a new city. I enjoy the thrill of being on the road, discovering new places, and taking in the experience along the way.

Why did you choose the Baptist Residency program?
I chose Baptist because I was looking for a program that offered strong clinical training in a supportive and collaborative environment. What stood out to me was the close-knit culture, approachable faculty, and the opportunity to learn through meaningful patient care with increasing autonomy. I felt that Baptist would provide the right balance of guidance and independence to help me grow into a confident and well-rounded internist.

Originally from Lucknow, India, Dr. Tewari graduated from King George’s Medical University (KGMU). Coming from a family of physicians, he was inspired from an early age to pursue medicine and make a meaningful difference in patients’ lives.

Fun fact: Dr. Tewari is a huge basketball fan and has already visited five NBA arenas. He also competed as a national-level cyclist, is a car enthusiast, and can surprisingly hit falsetto notes despite not being much of a singer!

Why he chose Baptist: Dr. Tewari was drawn to Baptist’s close-knit culture, supportive leadership, and strong sense of camaraderie among residents. He looks forward to growing as a physician while serving the community and enjoying life in the peaceful city of Beaumont, Texas.

What made you want to become a physician?
Growing up, I witnessed the profound difference compassionate physicians could make in the lives of patients and their families. Those experiences inspired me to pursue medicine with the goal of making a meaningful impact through compassionate care, lifelong learning, and service to the community.

Fun fact
Originally from Pakistan, Dr. Khan enjoys traveling, exploring new places, and spending quality time with family and friends whenever he gets the chance. He believes that discovering new cultures and experiences is one of the best ways to stay inspired and maintain balance outside of medicine.

Why did you choose Baptist?
From my interview day, Baptist stood out for its welcoming culture, supportive learning environment, and strong clinical training. It felt like a place where I would be challenged to grow while being supported by outstanding mentors and colleagues. I’m excited to begin this journey and serve the Southeast Texas community.
