Meet Charketha Costley, a resilient individual that is celebrating 9 months of sobriety!

Charketha agreed to speak with us, tell her story, and what led her to Spindletop Center and eventually her sobriety.

"I did go through some childhood trauma. That initiated a train effect in my life, starting with my anger and not being able to control my emotions. Not being able to have the tools, to understand even what was going on or happening to me."

After being faced with jail time, she was given a choice with the probation office that led her to Spindletop Center. "I showed up and from that day I have been showing up every Tuesday since. Spindletop has had a big impact on my life because of the support system."

Charketha has found her passion through her journey. She founded Itworksifyouworkit to create events in the community that help normalize sobriety.

Her hope is that others would not be ashamed to seek help, and to not worry about what people think. " Don't lose hope, keep pushing, keep fighting, and know that it is progress, not perfection."

We’re proud to see our partnership with the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office continue to make a difference in the community and helping those who need support! 💙

JCSO welcomes mental health counselor to Jasper County Jail:

Today, the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office is welcoming DeAnn Wills to the Jasper County Jail, where she will begin providing mental health services to individuals in our custody.

DeAnn has spent the past 14 years working as a Mental Health Crisis Counselor with Spindletop Center, our local mental health authority. Before taking on this new assignment, she served as the Homeless Outreach Center Coordinator, bringing years of experience working with individuals facing mental health and substance abuse challenges.

Providing access to mental health and addiction resources inside our jail is an important part of caring for those in our custody. Our years-long partnership with Spindletop Center has played a huge role in making a difference in the lives of those in our jail, and we are grateful for their continued support.

We are excited to have DeAnn joining us and look forward to the impact she will make.

If you or someone you know is experiencing a mental health crisis, help is available through the Spindletop Center Mental Health Crisis Intervention Hotline at 1-800-937-8097.
