Aquaporins are specialized water channels found in every cell of the body.

In 2003, research on aquaporins earned a Nobel Prize because it helped explain something remarkable: water doesn’t simply move wherever it wants. Cells carefully regulate the movement of water through these channels.

That’s one reason the science of hydration is so fascinating.

Hydration isn’t only about the amount of water available around a cell. It’s also about the cell’s ability to move and utilize that water where it’s needed.

The more I learn about cellular hydration, the more I’m reminded that water is doing far more than just quenching thirst.

if you really want to do it, just move to a different area if you are able to if the area you live in doesn’t allow that in those certain hospitals

As an ICU nurse, one thing I’ve learned is that performance isn’t just about what we eat or how we train. It’s also about how well our bodies use oxygen.

That’s what made these interesting to me.

Price tells you what you’ll pay today. Certifications, testing, and manufacturing standards tell you what you’ll live with for years.

When comparing water ionizers, don’t just ask which one costs less. Ask:

• What certifications does it have?
• Has it been independently tested?
• Where are the internal components manufactured?
• Are replacement parts readily available?
• How long has the company been around?
• What kind of support is available after the sale?
• What contaminants is it actually certified to reduce?

Not all water ionizers are built the same. The quality of the plates, filters, electronics, and internal components can make a huge difference in performance, longevity, and maintenance costs down the road.

I went down the water ionizer rabbit hole so you don’t have to. Here’s one thing I learned:

Not all water is created equal.

Most people look at pH and stop there. I was more interested in charge.

When water is exposed to oxygen, it becomes more oxidizing. When it gains electrons, it becomes more reducing.

Think about what happens when an apple is sliced and turns brown. That’s oxidation.

The question I started asking wasn’t “What’s the pH?” It was “What’s the oxidation-reduction potential (ORP)?”

Because pH tells you how acidic or alkaline something is.

Charge tells you whether it’s more likely to donate electrons or pull them away.

That’s what sent me down the rabbit hole of ORP, electrolysis, molecular hydrogen, certifications, and testing.

Sometimes the most important question isn’t the one everyone is asking.

It’s the one nobody is talking about.
