Diana Jean Harding, 78, of Peterstown, West Virginia, passed away on October 28, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of love, cherished memories, and a family forever changed by her absence.

Born on December 26, 1947, Diana was a woman of extraordinary strength, abiding love, and a heart that seemed to have room for everyone. She was the kind of woman who loved fiercely, spoke her mind without hesitation, and stood firmly in what she believed. Outspoken and stubborn in all the best ways, Diana was as strong as she was tender, and those who knew her understood that beneath her spirited personality was a heart overflowing with love.

At the center of Diana's world was her family. She devoted her life to caring for those she loved, always making sure everyone was fed, comfortable, and taken care of. Whether she was crocheting something special, preparing a home-cooked meal, or simply spending time surrounded by her loved ones, Diana found her greatest happiness in the little moments that made a lifetime of memories. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were among her greatest blessings, and she treasured every moment spent with her babies.

One of the most beautiful chapters of Diana's life was the storybook love she shared with her devoted husband, John Matthew Harding. Their love was something truly special, a testament to companionship, devotion, and the kind of bond that withstands life's many seasons. Together, they built a life filled with love, family, and memories that will continue to be cherished for generations.

Diana is survived by her loving husband, John Matthew Harding; her daughters, Rebecca (Clayton) Hollingsworth, Samantha Robinson, and Regina Justice; her sons, David (Mary) Mullins and Shane Harding; and her brother, Danny Woodson.

She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Jesse, Johnny, Kelly, Kasey, Amanda, Caleb, Kaitlyn, Ashley, Beth, Chelsea, Cage, and Josiah; honorary granddaughter Jaylyn and her precious great-grandchildren, Anniston, Marleigh, Elijah, Kamerin, Kinsley, Troy, Alexis, Connor, Roman, Israel, Avery, Amelia, Jaxson, Sandriana, Caroline, and Baby Smith. As well as a multitude of friends and other family members.

To her family, Diana was so much more than a wife, sister, mother, grandmother, or great-grandmother. She was a source of comfort, a steady presence, a familiar voice, and a love unlike any other. She was the hands that made things with love, the heart that worried about everyone, and the woman who always wanted to know that her family was okay.

Although her family must now learn to navigate a world without her physical presence, the love Diana gave will never leave them. It will live on in every family gathering, every cherished recipe, every handmade keepsake, every memory, and every story told about the remarkable woman they were blessed to call theirs.

Her hands may now be still, but the love they gave will continue to hold her family together. Her voice may now be quiet, but her words, her wisdom, and her love will echo through generations. And though she may no longer be here to hold our hands, wipe away our tears, or wrap us in the comfort of her unwavering love, we will carry those precious moments with us for the rest of our lives. For a love as strong as hers does not end with goodbye. It lives on in the hearts of everyone she touched, in the memories we cherish, and in the family she loved so fiercely. Though we can no longer hold her in our arms, we will hold her in our hearts forever.

Diana Jean Harding was deeply loved, will be profoundly missed, and will forever be cherished.

Christine Smith

Christine Smith, 79, of Mabscott, West Virginia, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, peacefully at her residence in Mabscott, surrounded by her family.

Born February 10, 1947, in Micco, West Virginia, Christine was the daughter of George Edward Swanagin and Vivian Estrada.

Christine was a born-again believer who trusted in Jesus as her Savior, redeemed by His blood for her sins. She was a baptized member of Bible Baptist Church, where her relationship with God was the foundation of her life. In the years she was healthy enough, Christine could be found in the local hospitals and nursing homes, visiting patients and bringing joy and laughter to everyone she met. She shared the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ with them, and it was the work she loved most. She was a regular volunteer in her church's Scripture Publishing Ministry. She was a living example of the love of Christ to all who knew her, especially her children, who watched her sacrifice for others time and time again. She embodied the scripture from the book of Philippians 2:3 - "Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves." That was Christine.

Christine was preceded in death by Bill Smith, her beloved husband of 60 years.

She is survived by her children, Billy Smith Jr., Vicky Clere, and Jack Smith; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Paul Henry Swanagin; her sister, Judy Gwinn; and her brother, Stanley Jones.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. (Viewing), with the Memorial Service beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 30th at Bible Baptist Church (2071 Robert C. Byrd Dr., Beckley), with Pastor Sam Green officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.

Lacy Eugene Short

Lacy Eugene Short, a son, brother, and friend, passed away suddenly on October 19, 2026, at the age of 41. Born on January 18, 1985, in Beckley, West Virginia, Lacy was a spirited and adventurous soul who embraced life with open arms.

Lacy was the beloved son of Dovie Short and the late Elijah Short. Growing up in Mabscott, he developed a deep appreciation for the beauty of the natural world. From a young age, Lacy found solace and joy in the outdoors, spending countless hours fishing in serene lakes and hunting in the lush forests of West Virginia.

Preceded in death by his father, Elijah Short, and his half-brother, Billy Barnett, Lacy is survived by his loving mother, Dovie Short, of Mabscott, his brother Lige Short, also of Mabscott, and his sister Pansy Rowe of Beaver, along with her husband Johnny, and several nieces and nephews.

Services are not planned at this time.
