Dolores June Daniel

October 6, 1931 - May 16, 2026

Dolores June Daniel, a resident of Walnut Creek Senior Living in Dayton, Ohio, left this life for the next on May 16 at the age of 94.

The second of five children, Dolores grew up in the communities of Bolt and Glen Daniel, WV. After graduating from Trap Hill High School in Lester, Dolores went to secretarial school and followed her sister Ernestine to Dayton, Ohio, where she worked for several local companies. Dolores also lived in the Washington, D.C., area, in Bethesda, Md., for several years with her sister Patty and near her sister Nancy. She worked for several federal agencies in the 1970s and '80s, including the Department of the Army and The Smithsonian. Ultimately, Dolores returned to Dayton and worked for a local hospital until she retired. Although she never returned to West Virginia to live, Dolores always called her family's farm west of Beckley home and visited her parents there for the rest of their lives.

Dolores prided herself on being strong and independent, and lived alone at Saint Leonard's Independent Living in Kettering, Ohio, until she was 93. She loved nature and walking outside, especially in the gardens and parks in Dayton. Even in her final years, she could be seen pushing her walker up the sidewalk, admiring the flowers and trees. Dolores loved to talk on the phone and was known to call Ernestine multiple times a day. She drove into her late 80s, mostly to visit Ernestine and pick up her favorite meal, a Wendy's cheeseburger, fries, chili and a frosty. When she could no longer drive, she delighted in having a Door Dash driver deliver Wendy's to her apartment.

A person of strong faith and fortitude, Dolores' strength was evident when she beat breast cancer in her 40s and melanoma at 90. When the melanoma returned when she was 92, Dolores had the difficult decision of whether she would again go through treatment, knowing it meant months of catching a bus every day to travel to appointments. "I will keep fighting as long as I can," she said.

Dolores is survived by her sister, Ernestine Daniel; nieces and nephews, Vicki, Karen, Kevin and Lisa Daniel, Craig Wiley and Laurie Alves; great nieces and nephews, Jake (and Katie), Haley and Reese Byrd and Nolan and Nat Johnson. She is preceded in death by her parents, Elson and Alice Daniel; brother, Gerald; and sisters, Patty and Nancy Daniel.

A memorial service and interment will be held at Sunset Memorial Park, Mausoleum B, in Beckley, WV, on 5/29/26 at 2:00 p.m.

Perfecto Dacal, Jr.

Perfecto (Woody) Dacal, Jr, 92, of Beckley passed away Sunday, May 10th, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born Oct 1, 1933, in East Gulf, WV he was the son of the late Perfecto Dacal and Fannie Bokano Dacal.

Woody was an Army Veteran who served as a paratrooper and draftsman during his military career. His education included an associate’s degree from Beckley College and an Electrical Drafting Certification from Chicago Technical College.

He always wanted to help “the little man” as he stated because he himself carved his own legacy through the founding of many businesses. He was hardworking and ambitious, he became well known throughout southern WV for his innovation and entrepreneurial spirit.

Woody’s work career started as a bag boy at Kroger’s; he also worked as a draftsman for Long Airdox which started his path down the electrical sector of the mining industry. He had many intertwining of companies as a partner or owner, and he had a passion for manufacturing and development. He started Mining Controls, Inc where he was President. He owned Control Products, Inc, sold it and bought it back many years later. He held two lighting patents, and his latest accomplishment was co-founding American Electric Equipment, Inc. with his partner Aaron Jones, with the support of their families, including their children AJ Jones and Woody’s children Perry, Greg, Janie, and his son-in-law Stanley Fansler, all of whom have played key roles in the company’s operations. In 2011, he purchased his partner’s share of the business, continuing to lead and grow the company before eventually welcoming the next generation, including his grandson Hunter, into its operations.

Woody had a deep love for animals and never turned away any creature he felt needed care or a good meal. It didn’t matter whether they were his own pets, feral animals or Woodrow’s ducks. Before long, they all seemed to recognize the familiar white Corvette coming down the road at a top speed of 35 mph with a trunk full of bread, knowing Woody was on his way with food.

Woody loved his Corvettes and his German Shepherds just as unconditionally. He also enjoyed spending time on the golf course, playing tennis, and softball in his younger years. His compassion, loyalty, and quiet generosity left a lasting impression on everyone, both people and animals alike.

Above all else, Woody was devoted to his wife and family. He shared a loving marriage with his late wife, Patty Lou Dacal, who preceded him in death in 2021. Together they build a life centered around faith, family, hard work and hospitality.

Woody is survived by his children, Perry Dacal (Vicky) of Beaver and their children Tig Dacal (Taryn) and Tabitha Quirk (Tim). Greg Dacal (Trena) of Ghent and their daughter Taylor Stoffa (Jason). Janie Fansler (Stanley) of Beckley and their children Hunter and Kacee. Great grandchildren: Max and Conner Quirk, Sabrina Stoffa, and caregiver and friend Debbie Hodges.

A graveside service will be held at Sunset Memorial Park at 11:30 am with Pastor Vondie Cook, II officiating. Arrangements by Calfee Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations to Hospice of Southern WV or the Delaney Wykle “Cat Colony Sterilization Program”.
