"The two-year study, led by Finland’s Natural Resources Institute, tracked around 75 children across "rewilded" and conventional daycare centers, analyzing microbes from skin, saliva, and faces, as well as immune markers in blood samples. Findings showed that children in biodiverse environments had fewer disease-associated bacteria, such as Streptococcus, on their skin, shifts in gut bacteria linked to inflammation, and increases in immune-regulating T cells within weeks. Researchers also reported stronger overall immune responses than in children in standard asphalt-and-plastic playgrounds."

The goal was to increase children's exposure to environmental microbes through everyday play.

The study adds to a growing body of research that explores why women and minorities tend to receive worse medical care than men and white patients.

As a P*P who treats the whole family, I see a lot of children, including newborns. I'm uniquely positioned to support parents before, during, and after pregnancy. What an honor it is to help parents and watch their children grow!

My approach to pediatrics is informed by the naturopathic philosophy of treating the whole person, and also by attachment parenting principles. I support parents in responding to their infant's needs to foster emotional well-being, which positively influences sleep, feeding, digestion, and overall systemic health.

One of my key roles is providing support and clarification for new parents who are often overwhelmed by conflicting information, guiding them to trust their intuition when responding to their child.

Treating families is such a privilege, and treating babies is one of my greatest joys!

I’m currently accepting newborns and encourage parents who are expecting to schedule a meet & greet to see if we are a good fit.

Have you been told to space out feedings or stick to a strict schedule instead of following your baby’s hunger cues? That approach can sometimes lead to low milk supply and poor weight gain.

Every parent has a unique milk storage capacity, and every baby has their own feeding pattern and needs. Feeding responsively - watching your baby, not the clock - helps protect your supply and supports healthy growth.

[Image of a nursing couplet. Text reads, "Myth: You should space your feedings so that your breasts have time to refill. Fact: The emptier the breast the faster the body makes milk to replace it; the fuller the breast the more production of milk slows down. If you consistently wait until your breasts "fill up" before nursing, your body may get the message that it is making too much and may reduce total production." Target says that by May 31 it will stop selling breakfast cereals made with certified synthetic food dyes.

That may seem like small news. It’s not a federal ban. It’s not sweeping legislation. It’s a retailer changing its standards.

But scale matters.

Target operates nearly 2,000 stores across the country. When a retailer that size updates what’s allowed on its shelves, manufacturers reformulate.

When you remove ingredients that don’t add value, even small ones, you lower the overall chemical load people are exposed to day after day. No single change transforms health. But small reductions, multiplied across millions of families, shift the baseline.

That’s often how food evolves in the United States. Not through one sweeping reform, but through steady adjustments driven by consumer expectations and retailer standards.

It may look incremental. But when companies of this size adjust their ingredient expectations, it reshapes the marketplace. This is a win in my book.

Acupuncture is one of my absolute favorite treatment modalities.

One of the primary concerns that people see me for is pain, and acupuncture can treat all kinds of pain - headaches, migraines, neck pain, thoracic pain, low back pain, hip pain, knee pain, you name it.

I also do a lot of treatment with acupuncture of hormonal imbalances, including PCOS, uterine fibroids, infertility, endometriosis, ovarian cysts, etc.

But like so many of our naturopathic modalities, acupuncture can treat multiple things at once. So, I can treat a patient for pain, insomnia, anxiety or depression, all while treating a hormonal imbalance.

Acupuncture is such a powerful tool for patients.

Dr. Haff discusses how acupuncture can treat multiple concerns at once, including pain, hormonal imbalances, infertility, insomnia, anxiety, depression, etc.
