New kitten integration. Jenny went with me to pick up Frannie, so she could hold her and not put her into the carrier. Frannie got swaddled in a towel to limit her movement in the car. Lots of encouragement, reassurance and praise.
Aconite 30C 1 pellet in a bit of water, sprayed on Frannie’s lower back after we got into the car. Aconite is great for fear (separation, first car ride, new people, etc). At home, a spray of Ignatia 30C, 1 pellet in a bit of water, repeated several times yesterday and today. Ignatia is for bereavement and loss. Frannie left her mom, several siblings, her home, and came to a new environment. Kiri is getting a spray of ignatia here and there also, because she is losing her status as the baby, as the only cat.
Frannie spent most of the first 24 hours in my kitten-proofed bedroom (outlet covers, plastic sheaths over electrical cords, no long straps/cords to get tangled in, nothing to choke on), and a few small places to hide. Mostly she was able to explore freely, but when I let Kiri come in, Frannie was moved into a metal crate, so they could see and smell each other (short supervised visits). Kiri growled and hissed a bit, but not too much.
Frannie spent the night in my bedroom with the ability to roam around - that girl managed to climb up on the bed, and then leap off! Bedroom door was closed and Kiri was outside. But Kiri doesn’t choose to sleep with me much, so it wasn’t a big change for her. Kiri has been getting extra attention and praise and endearments all through this, with advance notice that Frannie would be coming and the kinds of behaviors I expected.
Late this morning, I let Kiri come in while Frannie was free roaming. Then I spent a lot of time with Frannie while she played around my legs or napped. Frannie has been exploring the bedroom, not hiding. Her little tail is up as she walks or prances around, so this afternoon, I left the bedroom door open and she came out to explore. Kiri has been wonderful, not aggressive, and they are starting to play together. Hooray!
I’ll continue the Ignatia for a few days as it seems needed.
Frannie’s diet: raw ground chicken (with meat, bones, organs, connective tissue) with about 50% water by weight of food to make a slurry. I’ve been adding a drop of Essential Energy Solutions’ Super Concentrated Mineral Water to the slurry also. She doesn’t seem very interested in raw milk, but I’ll try that again tomorrow.
I have the Helios homeopathic kit for pets, which one can purchase locally at TapRoots in Forest. It comes with a very helpful booklet on the remedies and how to choose and use them.
