National Association for Children of Addiction

National Association for Children of Addiction Every child deserves someone who knows how to help. Donate or learn more at nacoa.org.

NACoA equips educators, professionals, caregivers and communities with evidence based programs and training to support children impacted by the disease of addiction. NACoA gives those who touch children’s lives daily the training and tools needed to help them see the pain and confusion of struggling children and respond appropriately both systemically in their professions and personally with under

standing hearts. In a word, our programs give a voice to impacted children who suffer in silence each day:
-Celebrating Families! ™, an evidence-based, trauma-informed, skill building program of 16 sessions serving the whole family: children ages birth-18, their parents & caregivers. Versions also available to support Hispanic & Native American families.
-Children's Program Kit, a comprehensive tool kit enabling implementation and ongoing managing of a complete children’s educational support program in schools, at treatment facilities, afterschool programs, weekend camps and summer day camps, or at religious institutions.
-The Clergy Education and Training Project®, developed in collaboration with major national faith organizations, it provides education and tools to help faith communities understand and address addiction and its devastating impact on families and children effectively.

For some children, substance use is happening in the home they will go to sleep in tonight.

They may not have the words to explain what is happening, but they still feel its effects.

NACoA provides evidence-based resources and training that help adults recognize these children and respond with care and confidence.

Every child deserves someone who understands what they are carrying.

Recovery Month kicked off in DC last week, and we were honored to be in the room.

This week marked more than a celebration, it was also the official launch of Voices of the Unheard, NACoA’s campaign lifting up children and families affected by addiction in their home.

Advocates, partners, and leaders gathered to share why this work matters, and to commit to doing more of it.

Grateful for every person in these photos, and for everyone doing this work long after the luncheon and meetings end.

Recovery Month is here.
Voices of the Unheard is live.

A teacher. A coach. A counselor. A family member. A neighbor.

Children don't always remember every conversation, but they remember the adults who made them feel safe, seen, and believed.

NACoA trains professionals and equips caring adults with practical, evidence-based resources to recognize the needs of children impacted by addiction and respond in ways that can make a lasting difference.

Two days ago, our very own Peggy McGillicuddy represented NACoA in DC for the Recovery Month kickoff and the official launch of Voices of the Unheard.

Peggy has given years to this work, to the children who carry more than most people ever see. Watching her represent that on a national stage reminded us exactly why we do this.

Recovery Month is here. Voices of the Unheard is live. We’re just getting started, and we’re glad you’re with us.

A child may love their parent deeply and still feel scared, confused, or hurt by what happens at home.

This Captain America poster helped make room for both truths while encouraging children to reach out to a safe adult for support.

Hope drawn in crayon and color. A family. A home. A sun that’s shining. Smiles.

Hope looks different for everyone.

For a child, it might look like this drawing, or it might look like one safe adult who asks "how are you doing?”

For a parent, hope might look like one more day of recovery or the courage to ask for help.

For a grandparent raising grandchildren, hope might look like knowing they’re not doing it alone.

For a family, hope might look like a home that feels steady. Dinner at the kitchen table.

However it shows up, every child and every family deserves to have hope.

Hope for their future, and for everything still ahead.

Voices of the Unheard is here to help make that hope real. 💜

Help children and families find hope: walk to raise awareness, give to help a child, and share to spread the message.

Want to help children and families? Now is your opportunity.

Throughout September, we are raising awareness and funds to help more children and families affected by the disease of addiction. Our campaign is called Voices of the Unheard.

Here are three ways you can get involved:

1. Walk with us. We’re partnering with country music singer Morgan Wade, who is walking 1 million steps this September to raise awareness. We’re encouraging people to walk with her, our goal is 19 million steps total, one for every child living in a home today where addiction is present. Post pictures of your own walk to help spread the word!

2. Help us reach more people. Engage with NACoA’s social media, share our content, write a blog post for us, make a video about your journey or your hope, or collaborate with us on a post. The goal is simple: reach more people with a message of hope, recovery, help, and healing.

3. Donate. Your generous donation helps children get the programs they need to heal. It helps professionals get trained in how to respond to children affected by addiction. It helps families get resources into their hands. And so much more.

Together we can reach more people! Together we can help more children and families!

One person’s recovery story can help another family believe change is possible.

Allen speaks honestly about substance use, fatherhood, long-term recovery, and the moments that changed how he understood his responsibility to his children.

Stories like his help break silence. They also remind us to look beyond the person struggling with substance use and recognize the children who are watching, adapting, and carrying their own experiences.

NACoA works to ensure those children are seen, understood, and supported.

Help us continue reaching children, families, and the professionals who serve them.
