Many of our patients have seen Gov. Abbott's letter instructing CPS to investigate the families of trans minors receiving gender-affirming medical care. This letter is NOT legally binding, and does not change Texas law or the constitutional rights of any Texan. No court in the country has ever found gender-affirming medical care to be child abuse. Every major medical association recommends gender-affirming medical care (therapy, puberty blockers, hormones, and/or surgeries) as the standard of care for trans youth suffering from dysphoria. This is a political stunt, timed a week before the primary election. Our clinic will continue to practice medicine in accordance with medical ethics and Texas law.

There are 30 anti-trans bills being considered during the current session of the Texas legislature, which would:
- make it illegal for parents to consent to hormones, puberty blockers, or surgeries for minors (SB 1646)
- allow doctors to refuse to provide care to patients based on their religious beliefs, even in life-or-death situations (HB 1424)
- prohibit physicians' malpractice insurance from covering gender care (HB 1399)
- ban trans girls from participating in sports (SB 29)

It's time to fight back.

As many of you know, Governor Abbott announced yesterday that he is ending the statewide mask mandate effective next week (against the guidance of the CDC). While COVID-19 cases have dropped over the past two months, they have plateaued or increased over the past week, and most experts believe that we are on the brink of another surge. We are so close to the finish line - let's make sure we make it all the way there! If we can hold out for another few months, continue masking and distancing, and get vaccinated, we could see a return to normal by summer or early fall.

Our clinic will continue to follow the guidance of medical experts. In order to ensure the safety of our patients and staff, we will continue to require masks in our office for the foreseeable future. We look forward to the day when we can see everyone's smiles in person again! Let's all do our part to get there as soon as we can.

I got my covid vaccine last week, and have been feeling great! No side effects other than a sore arm for a day. I'm so thankful to have access to the vaccine, and to finally see a light at the end of the tunnel.

I strongly encourage all my patients to get a covid vaccine as soon as it's offered to you. The only way to get out of this pandemic is for everyone to do their part and get vaccinated.

Texas authorities are recommending that people in groups 1A (healthcare workers) and 1B (anyone over 65, or over 18 with comorbidities) be vaccinated now. To get your vaccine, check out the following resources:

The vaccine is free (paid for by the federal government). If you have health insurance, your insurance may be billed for the vaccine administration. If you do not have health insurance, you will not be asked to pay anything.

The vaccine is safe. We have six months of data on the Pfizer and Moderna trial participants (about 60,000 people). Over 4.2 million Americans have been vaccinated since the vaccine was first offered to the public in mid-December.
