Relationships are challenging! Whether days, months, or years into a connection you are susceptible to struggles. Often these struggles arise when we lose sight of our intentions. We were never meant to create a connection, commit to a relationship, and then become CONSUMED with or by our partner. The success of any relationship is in the way each partner COMPLEMENTS one another.
Successful relationships radiate authentic admiration for each party involved. They celebrate the strengths of one another while offering support in the weak and vulnerable places. They allow for differences of ideas, opinions, experiences, and expectations. They do not pressure the other to be their EVERYTHING, rather accept what is offered as a gift and appreciate their partner for showing up consistently, supporting in their strengths and struggles, and allowing for safety and space in seasons of uncertainty.
Often we can be drawn into the abyss of another, seeking acceptance, validation, and approval, among other things. Or quite possibly striving to create change in the other through accommodation, manipulation, or instigation. It is in these moments that we must reflect on the true heart of the connection. Are you working to COMPLEMENT your partner or are you CONSUMED by your relationship?
No two people are perfect, which means there will never be a perfect relationship. However, as you face each new moment together, approach your partner with curiosity, confidence, and commitment. Your goal is to complement one another’s strengths, create connection, and commit to supporting and strengthening each other.
You are meant to COMPLEMENT the person your partner is, not be CONSUMED by them.
