I’ve been sitting with the difference between being 'possessed' by stress and being 'haunted' by it lately.
When I’m possessed by worry, the stress has the keys to the car. It’s driving the bus, and I’m just along for the ride, usually white-knuckling the armrest. Everything feels urgent, everything feels like a crisis, and my nervous system is stuck in overdrive.
But when I’m only 'haunted'? The stress is still there—it’s hanging out in the corners of the room. It’s a part of my story, a remnant of the past. But it’s not in the driver's seat. I am. I can acknowledge the weight without letting it steer my decisions.
It’s the difference between being a victim of my circumstances and being the curator of my capacity.
I’m deep in my 'healing, not healed' era. I don’t have all the answers, and the 'hauntings' of life are still present, but the panic has lost its power. Today, I’m choosing to focus on the glimmers of light instead of the shadows.
What’s one thing you’re choosing to navigate today—rather than letting it navigate you?
