Tinnitus affects an estimated 740 million people worldwide. It is more common than Type 2 diabetes and migraine, and it remains the #1 service-connected disability among U.S. veterans.

While meaningful progress has been made in the world of tinnitus, there is still no cure. In this new role, I look forward to drawing on my background in education, research, clinical care, neuroscience, and program leadership to help advance ATA’s impact.

Founded in 1971 by Charles Unice, a physician who experienced tinnitus himself, and researcher Jack Vernon of the University of Oregon Medical Center, the American Tinnitus Association was established to support and fund tinnitus research. Today, ATA remains the only national patient-focused nonprofit dedicated exclusively to tinnitus—funding research, advancing treatment options, and supporting people living with tinnitus.

All this to say… powerful things happen when individuals impacted by tinnitus, clinicians, and researchers, donors, and sponsors come together. I’m grateful for the opportunity to contribute to ATA’s mission and excited for what lies ahead with the launch of ATA Academy!
