June 19, known as Juneteenth, marks one of the most significant milestones in our nation’s history. Although the Emancipation Proclamation took effect on Jan. 1, 1863, it wasn’t until June 19, 1865, that news of emancipation reached Texas — more than two years after the official act.
Juneteenth is a day of celebration and reflection, commemorating a pivotal step toward a more just and equitable nation. While slavery was abolished, the work of addressing racism and advancing equity continues.
As we honor Juneteenth, we remember the past, celebrate progress, and reaffirm our dedication to fostering an inclusive workplace for our staff and providing equitable care for every member of our community.
