-Oral appliance therapy is not “just a mouthguard.”
For the right patient, a custom mandibular advancement device can be an effective treatment for obstructive sleep apnea especially for people with mild to moderate sleep apnea, or those who cannot tolerate CPAP.

Oral appliance therapy still needs to be treated like medical therapy.
That means:
-It should be prescribed after a sleep evaluation
-It should be fitted and titrated by a practitioner board certified in dental sleep medicine
-It should be adjusted carefully over time
-And it should be followed by repeat sleep testing to make sure it is actually working because the goal is not just to stop snoring.
-The goal is to treat the airway obstruction, improve oxygenation, protect sleep quality, and reduce the health risks associated with untreated sleep apnea.
