Sleep Disruption
🌙 CLINICAL CLUE #1: Sleep Disruption Isn’t Always “Just Insomnia.”
A woman in long-term recovery tells you she’s waking every night between 2:00 and 4:00 AM.
She’s exhausted.
Her anxiety has increased.
Her patience is gone.
She’s craving relief in ways she hasn’t for years.
Our first instinct might be to explore relapse risk, depression, anxiety, trauma, or medication changes—and those are all important considerations.
But what if there’s another piece of the clinical picture?
For many women, the menopause transition can significantly disrupt sleep long before they recognize other hormonal changes. Chronic sleep disruption doesn’t just cause fatigue—it can affect emotional regulation, stress tolerance, decision-making, and recovery.
Sometimes the most important intervention begins with a better assessment question.
đź’¬ Consider asking:
“How has your sleep changed over the past 6–12 months?”
Because better questions often lead to better care.
