In 1984, a psychologist, an orthopedic surgeon, a nurse/vocational counselor, and a physical therapist founded “Northwest Spinal Rehabilitation” (later becoming “UBC, Inc.”). All four idealistic founders simply wanted to make a difference treating injured workers with an interdisciplinary approach early on, immediately after injury. Today, Pacific Rehabilitation Centers emphasizes return-to-work s
kills and physical rehabilitation. Our interdisciplinary programs include psychology, vocational counseling, medical, physical therapy, occupational therapy, nursing and biofeedback. Our committed professionals are willing and able to energize, encourage and rehabilitate individuals who have lost hope on returning to normal activities of daily life. Currently, the average treatment referral is only 1 to 2 years post-injury. In the late 1980s, with Redmond as our corporate office, we had hopes of opening additional locations throughout the region. The dream of expansion was actualized in the mid-90s when we opened satellite clinics in Everett and Puyallup. We are especially proud of our expansion because we are better able to provide services to our clients in those communities. Pacific Rehabilitation Centers has distinguished itself by having the first CARF-accredited work-hardening program in the State of Washington. Since 1989, our Return-to-Work – Pain Management program has also been accredited. CARF standards assist in attaining a high level of excellence, which allows Pacific Rehabilitation Centers to excel in the treatment of the chronic pain patient. Pacific Rehabilitation Centers has had a tradition of community participation and education. Pilot projects have been conducted with the Seattle School District, The Boeing Company, Atlas Van Lines, and Hewlett Packard, among others. Our clinicians have provided injury-prevention and educational in-services to employer groups, health care and worker’s compensation conferences, and physician and vocational offices. Our company has always felt like family; the staff remain loyal and conscientious. The Board of Directors have created the plans for Pacific Rehabilitation Centers to continue to serve the chronic pain population indefinitely.
