29 years.
That's how long it's been since we set up shop above an ice cream parlor in Redmond, Washington with seven employees, $22.5 million raised from friends and family, and one stubborn idea: that our parents, our grandparents, and someday all of us deserve a whole lot better than what senior living was offering in 1997.
We opened our first community in Pleasant Hill, California in 1998. Today we're 37 communities strong across Washington, California, and Nevada, with another on the way β a team of more than 3,000 people who show up every day for the residents and families who trust us with what matters most.
Along the way we borrowed from the best β Nordstrom's service, Starbucks' culture, Four Seasons' design β and we invented plenty of our own: spas in senior living, chef-driven kitchens, memory care that actually feels like home, a "black box" of ideas in every community because the best innovations come from the people closest to the work.
But if I'm honest, the numbers that move me most aren't 29 or 37. They're the more than 30,000 residents whose stories have run through our hallways. The daughters who finally exhaled. The husbands who found a table of new friends. The caregivers who stayed for decades because this became their calling, not just their job.
To every resident, family member, and team member who has been part of this ride β thank you. You built this with me.
We're aging stronger every year. And we're just getting started.
