Street Medicine volunteers respectfully give space to allow the medical provider to develop rapport and learn what each person we encounter wants. Our client directed approach has been very successful in meeting the basic healthcare needs of our unhoused neighbors.

Every Tuesday, members of the Homeless Outreach Team partner with MRC Street Medicine to connect people with essential medical services. Healthcare isn't just about clinics - it is about meeting people where they are at. By showing up consistently on the streets and in the encampments, both teams build genuine relationships that are based on trust to provide care and connection to services. Whatcom Street Medicine is a volunteer team of local healthcare workers providing no-cost services to our unhoused neighbors. Nurses and doctors volunteer several times a week to provide free first aid and wound care to unhoused neighbors where they are at. Our unhoused neighbors have medical needs just like everyone else. Unfortunately, medical conditions have a much more severe impact on them, reducing their ability to cope and function. You can find our Whatcom Street Medicine volunteers and the HOT team downtown and at the Recovery Cafe, Tuesday afternoons helping deliver first aid and wound care to our unhoused neighbors. Last year our healthcare teams donated over 2,000 hours of volunteer time, thanks for the support!!
