Foot pain can be frustrating because the painful spot is not always the starting point.
Your foot is the end of a long movement chain.
It is influenced by your ankle, knee, hip, pelvis, low back, and nervous system.
If your spine or pelvis is not moving well, your foot may compensate with stiffness, tightness, arch pain, heel pain, or that locked up feeling.
This is especially common when one side of the body carries more load than the other.
Here are a few things to check.
Does one foot feel tighter than the other.
Does your hip on that side also feel restricted.
Does your low back feel stiff when the foot hurts.
Does walking change the pain.
Do you feel better barefoot or worse barefoot.
To support better foot function, work on ankle circles, calf mobility, toe spreading, glute strength, and hip mobility.
But do not forget the spine and pelvis.
Your foot cannot move well if the chain above it is not doing its job.
