Our rehab department, Rehab Synergies, invited guests in from the community this week to demonstrate our equipment and to educate them on the benefits of therapy. We are so proud of our therapists and the accomplishments of all of our residents. Above is our amazing gym where our residents have worked so hard to meet their goals. Benbrook’s beauty shop is open for business every other Tuesday! Our hair dresser, Ms. Bobbi Sanders comes in to give our residents haircuts, perms, blow outs and touch ups. The only thing our residents and family members have to do is let us know exactly what the resident needs. Come by Benbrook for a tour and take a look at the beauty shop!

Nurse of the Month!

Benbrook’s Resident Council has selected Marie Tshoba as the August Nurse of the Month. Marie has worked at Benbrook for the past 16 months. She graduated from Universal Health Services’ nursing school in 2011 and has worked as a nurse for the past five years. Marie comes from a family of healthcare professionals; her husband is also a LVN. We thank Marie for her commitment to our residents and appreciate all her hard work. Congrats Marie!

Back to School Bash!

Join us at Benbrook Nursing and Rehab on August 12th for our back to school celebration. We will start the fun at 11:30. We will have water balloon fights, cupcake walks, and a ring toss. For lunch we will have hotdogs, chips and yummy treats. We will be accepting donations for our local school. Please stop by at any time and drop off school supplies at 1000 McKinley Street, Benbrook. We look forward to seeing you!

Gladys Cottongame was evaluated for physical therapy services to help improve safety with mobility throughout the facility and to improve her balance. During her progression of therapy services, she went from ambulating with assistance for balance and safety to being able to ambulate up to 300 feet without any assistance. Mrs. Cottongame also has made improvements with her standing balance and ability to correct her posture as evident by her Tinetti score which measures gait and balance. With her improved balance and ability to ambulate longer distances safely, Mrs. Cottongame is now able to independently get to and from meaningful activities of choice and complete daily ADLs with less assistance from caregivers.

Patricia Brunson has been participating with Speech Therapy services to prevent deterioration of her cognitive abilities. Patricia has demonstrated progress with orientation and the ability to recall daily events. Patricia also worked with Speech therapy to complete a memory scrap book to aide in reminiscing of her past life events and current favorite daily activities. Staff and caregivers are now able to reminisce with Patricia during daily events.

Maria Smith has been volunteering at Benbrook for three years! She comes in every other week to perform for our residents. She picks from their favorite songs and has them sing along. She is a retired Crowley School Teacher and truly enjoys spending time with our residents. She not only performs for our residents but also for children all around Benbrook. Our residents love to see Maria here and we love having her! Thank you so much Maria for spending your free time with us!

Congratulations to Benbrook’s C.N.A of the month, Sharon Holloman! Sharon has been employed as a certified nursing assistant at Benbrook Nursing & Rehab for the past 18 years. She enjoys working closely with our residents and has no plans of leaving us any time soon. In the future, Sharon hopes to return to nursing school and become a Licensed Vocational Nurse. We appreciate all her hard work and dedication! Thank you Sharon for all you do.

David Yanowski admitted to Benbrook Nursing & Rehab on 5/27/16. He came to us after having a below the knee amputation on his right leg. He has been working very hard with our Rehab Department and is now getting fit for a prosthetic leg. Once he receives his prosthetic leg he will continue to work with Physical and Occupational therapy until he is back up on his feet. He hopes to become stronger, more independent and discharge back home.
