A unicorn. Truly.

Some people come into your life and you just know they’re meant to be there.

Emily is one of those people.

She’s the keeper of the little details, the sneaky photo-capturer, a calm presence, and the teammate who somehow always knows what I’m thinking with just a glance across the room.

We believe informed decisions begin with honest conversations.

Join us as we gather with mothers who have experienced home birth in a variety of ways and the midwives who support it. To share stories, answer questions, explore common misconceptions, and connect in community.

Whether you’re expecting, considering your options, supporting a loved one, or simply curious, you’re welcome here.

We’re also looking for mothers who have experienced home birth and would be willing to share their story as part of the conversation. Every experience adds something valuable and helps create a fuller picture of what home birth can look like. Because every birth story is uniquely its own, and there is value in hearing them all.

You didn’t think you’d be having a baby anytime soon when we talked on Monday.

Then around 1 a.m.a message came through things had started, and your husband was on his way home. You were ready. With a bright, beautiful moon overhead and the first hints of nautical twilight beginning to lighten the sky, we headed your way.

When we arrived, you were coping beautifully, resting on your bed. Almost as soon as we got there, something shifted. You let go, surrendered fully to the work of birth, and began feeling the urge to push.

You mentioned feeling something coming out, though you still had your underwear on. As we checked, we found a bulging bag of waters. Moments later, as your underwear came off, your baby’s head was born as your waters released.

Your baby’s head was born in the veil of the amniotic sac, and moments later the rest of your baby followed straight into your arms.

As you held your baby on your chest, you looked at us with the biggest smile and said, “You guys what! That was crazy I had a homebirth.”

And as if the morning wasn’t magical enough, a tiny hummingbird named Johnny Cash paid a visit outside during your golden hour, fluttering nearby as your family soaked in those first precious moments together. 🦋

With summer just beginning, it’s already time to look ahead to the families who will be welcoming little ones this winter.

Contractions were irregular, and while things were certainly happening, you felt well supported by your husband and not quite ready for us to join you yet.

Then, as birth often does, it unfolded in its own time and then all at once. A message was sent but never delivered, followed shortly by a phone call letting us know your baby had already arrived earthside. And not just any baby a sweet surprise baby girl with a head full of hair.

When we arrived, we stepped into the quiet magic of those first moments: you nestled in the birth tub, bonding with your daughter, supported by your husband and soaking in the wonder of it all. It was natural, powerful, beautiful, and filled with awe. 🦋

With an early morning start, things picked up and moved quickly. You coped so beautifully breathing deeply, moving intentionally, softly telling your body to “oooh-pen” through each wave.

Chickens clucked outside while you swayed and labored, using the warm water to relax and trusting your body every step of the way. Baby gave us a few turns along the journey, and together we listened, shifted, and adjusted right alongside him.

And as a storm brewed outside, thunder rolling and lightning flashing across the sky, with dad arriving just in the nick of time, you welcomed your sweet boy earthside.

This story has taken me time to write because the rights words just took longer to find.

For days, she labored with incredible determination, and trust surrounded by deep support and so much love. She stayed open through every turn labor brought, meeting each moment with grace even as exhaustion settled into her bones.

And when the time came to make decisions for rest and relief, she made them thoughtfully, without losing sight of what mattered most to her. That kind of surrender takes strength, too.

I hope she always remembers this: her son entered the world carried by a mother who showed immense resilience, and love long before she ever held him in her arms. And after all the winding turns of his birth, she brought him earthside exactly the way she fought so hard to.

What a privilege it was to be a part of & witness. 🦋
