In March of 2025 we were driving quickly to a precipitous birth in Madras, Oregon. On our way Allegra was driving and Ellen was sitting in the passenger seat calling local dispatches to alert them of our speeding. Giving our vehicle description and the cause. Crook County Dispatch gave the go-ahead and told us to be safe. We crossed into Jefferson County. Ellen again called Frontier Dispatch to alert them. However, they were not in support of our speeding. Our top speed was 85mph with our flashers on for safety. We never passed in a no passing zone. We never tailgated. We never put anyone on the road in danger. A Jefferson County Sheriff's deputy started to pursue us. We begged and pleaded for an es**rt. They told us this wasn't an excuse to speed so we pulled over. The deputy pulled alongside our vehicle and we asked if he understood the situation. He said yes and EMS was activated and ready. We told him we don't need EMS. This is a PLANNED home birth and we are their licensed care providers. We then again asked for an es**rt. The deputy told us he would need to ask his supervisor. We didn't have time to wait for an answer and continued to our clients house. A few miles up the road there were multiple Jefferson County Sheriffs deputies and OSP troopers. They had guns pointed at us and were preparing to spike strip us. Ellen called our clients husband who was an off duty Crook County Sheriffs deputy to alert him. He called into Frontier dispatch and asked for the pursuit to end. It immediately ended. The Jefferson County Sheriffs supervisor called Ellen and gave her a good verbal chew out. He then sent deputies to our laboring clients house. It was there they circled the house with guns drawn until they heard our laboring mother giving birth and ran back to their vehicles to wait. After the birth Allegra went out to speak to them. They told her they should throw her on the ground and arrest her. And they were prepared to shoot us during the pursuit. She apologized profusely and they didn't care nor want to understand why. They charged her with FELONY eluding and Reckless Driving - a Class A misdemeanor. For 7 months we fought this in the court. Deputy District Attorney Eric Nisley (formerly Wasco County District Attorney) refused to lessen the charges. He gave her two options. Go to trial and be tried for a felony or take a plea deal and take the misdemeanor. At the advice of our attorney she pled guilty to the misdemeanor as Jefferson County often always sides with deputies and police, no matter emergency of any situation. Her punishments were harsh. However, one of her sentencing arraignments was to write an apology letter to the pursuing deputy. In April of 2025 she did just that out of the kindness of her heart. She genuinely felt bad about what had happened. The final and official police report had the apology letter attached to it. During the final sentencing hearing our attorney told the court she had already written an apology letter. The judge asked DDA Nisley to look for the letter, which he said he would have his staff look for it. We never heard a word regarding the letter after we left the courthouse on October 30th, 2025. On November 29th, two days after Thanksgiving. Allegra was arrested in front of her children and Ellens children while giving horseback rides at their home. She was arrested on a no-bail warrant because Eric Nisley never looked for the letter. She spent 3 days and two nights in jail. We have been fighting for months over this extreme abuse of power. Eric Nisley's criminality spans back for over 20 years until he was voted out of office in Wasco County. And now he's in Central Oregon causing more harm. He asked Allegra's attorney to have Allegra admit in an email in her writing to her arrest being a technical violation of the court and he would drop the "probation violation." Needless to say we aren't standing down, but standing up. We are asking all clients past and present to show up to the Jefferson County Courthouse on 1/29 at 2:45 in support. There is power in numbers. Your midwives could use your help. Please share this article and show up in protest regarding this man and his ongoing abuse to our Central Oregon community.
