School's out, and summer is here! ☀️ While extra free time can be fun, it can also mean more requests for screen time. Finding the right balance can help children stay active, engaged and healthy all summer long.
Here are some tips for managing screen time this summer:
• Set clear limits and expectations for screen use.
• Keep screens off during meals and out of bedrooms at night.
• Choose educational, age-appropriate content when possible.
• Watch programs together and talk about what your child is seeing and learning.
• Use parental controls to help filter content.
• Encourage outdoor play, reading, hobbies and time with friends.
• Include older children in conversations about screen time and family rules.
Remember, screens shouldn't replace opportunities for physical activity, creativity, social interaction and family time.
If you have questions about screen time and your child's health or development, talk with your primary care clinician.
