Caleb's family faced an uphill battle as he was confronted with a variety of challenges all at once. In the midst of 4th grade, Caleb's lively spirit was dampened by major motor tics, mood swings, and difficulties focusing. 😔 And part of the culprit was a PANDAS diagnosis!

With “every specialist under the sun” offering little relief, the journey started to feel hopeless. Neurologists diagnosed him with Tourette's, and psychiatry experimented with various medications for anxiety and ADHD, but the impact was minimal.

Soon, Caleb's grades started plummeting, and he felt like a social outcast at school. Something just didn't feel right. 💔

But that’s when they found PX Docs after a trusted recommendation from a friend.
When they met their local team, mom said, “From the start, they made us feel heard and gave us hope again.” And though she felt cautious to cling to too much hope after being let down by other doctors, deep down she felt this was exactly what he needed.

After committing wholeheartedly to Caleb’s unique care plan, the wins started coming! There was no denying that it was working when Caleb’s tics started disappearing! 🙌 A huge relief for everyone!

Now with continued care, mom says his tics have reduced by 90%, his grades are on the rise, and his mood is much more stable. (“As stable as tweens can be!” 😉) Mom also reports that he’s easier to redirect and has better social engagement with his peers. 👏

Getting a diagnosis can bring two very different emotions at the exact same time. 💭
Relief because someone finally recognizes what you’ve been seeing. 🤍 And uncertainty because suddenly there’s a new word attached to your child, and you’re trying to understand what it means for their future.
A diagnosis can be incredibly valuable. It can open the door to IEPs and 504 Plans, therapies, insurance coverage, accommodations, community, and early intervention. 🌿
Use those resources. 🤝
But don’t let the label become the limit.
Your child is still the funny one, the determined one, the creative one, the affectionate one, the one who notices everything, and the one who surprises you. ✨
They are a whole person first and a diagnosis second! 🤍

Happy 4 year work-aversary Becca! 🥳

In 4 years, she’s made a huge impact at Arbor Vitae and in the NWA community, helping launch multiple programs that increase impact and lead teams through all of the transitions. To say we are thankful and grateful is an understatement. 💕

We are sad this is the last anniversary we are celebrating with her as she’s moving to Missouri to be closer to her family and adopt a baby, but we are so excited for her to become a momma! 💕🙏🏼💙

Finally, a simple explanation for why your child melts down over what feels like "nothing." 🙌 For some kids with neurological challenges, their brain and nervous system get stuck in “overdrive.” Things that don’t bother most people can feel really hard for them. A tag that feels like sandpaper. A birthday party that feels like total chaos. Constant crashing, jumping, and moving are signs they're seeking sensory input to try and calm down.

When their brain isn’t getting clear messages, it shows up as:
😣 Big meltdowns and outbursts
😣 Trouble sitting still or focusing
😣 Struggles with clothing, food, or sounds
😣 Difficulty calming themselves down
😣 Poor sleep, balance, or coordination

Some kids experience the world differently, and our mission at Arbor Vitae is to help every kid to feel comfortable in their own bodies. ♥️
