Parenting through a NICU stay. Birth trauma. Postpartum anxiety. Grief.

What other choice was there than to keep trying to move forward one step at a time?

But seriously… between back to school into all the activities and fall things and holidays the comparison is everywhere if you are looking for it.

I saw something yesterday that said in 1996 moms didn’t leave school drop off and immediately have at their fingertips an inside look into other people’s jobs, homes, vacations, decor etc.

Sure it’s great that in 2026 you can order new diapers in your pajamas if you’re in a bind and you can stay in touch with your mom friends through texts and memes. AND you can also get sucked into the doomscrolling comparison rabbit hole.

Feeling stuck? Dm me for a free consult- accepting new clients in NY & NJ for virtual therapy.

The post NICU anxiety is real.

I lived it and I have the clinical tools to help.

Don’t try to convince yourself it’s not that bad! You deserve support.

Check out Postpartum Support International for free support groups. DM me for a free consultation for 1:1 therapy in NY or NJ.

It took me until my 40s to stop caring what people think.

My kids won’t have to wait that long if I can help it.

I’m a perinatal mental health therapist in NY and NJ. If you’re a mom still working on this for yourself, I have availability starting September 2nd. Dm me for info.

Turns out it looks nothing like I imagined. And that’s okay.

I like to joke that there was the mother I thought I’d before I knew what having kids would be like and the version of me that exists now. Tbh I like this version better anyway.

More thoughts on all things motherhood on my substack- link in my bio, see you there.

As a perinatal mental health therapist, I see how often this journey turns control into a coping strategy.
The calendar gets micromanaged.
Every variable feels high-stakes.

Not because you’re rigid, but because uncertainty has been so heavy for so long.

If this is you, nothing is “wrong” with you.
Your nervous system is just trying to protect your hope.

And part of the work we do together is learning when planning helps…
and when gently loosening control can bring relief.

In January I’m cold & missing my family from the holidays. AND I’m feeling grateful for these little things that have brought me joy and softened the edges of winter.

My clients with anxiety have an especially hard time with this one and what might happen if they set the boundaries that they need.

So to be clear :

👉Aside from the other parent, nobody has “a right” to see your baby immediately.

🚫You can have visitors. Or not.

⏱️You can limit the length of visits.

❤️You can do what’s best for you, your mental and physical health, and your family.

That is all. 🫶
