Spring has well and truly arrived. Do you feel different? The days are longer, new life is emerging in nature and perhaps something is awakening in you, your energy is rising as you notice natural systems activating. We are in the traditional and natural time of the new year.

We inherited the calendar we align our lives to from the Romans. When we look back to the earliest Roman calendar commonly attributed to Romulus, the new year started, in March (Martius) in alignment with the emergence of spring, agricultural activity as well as administrative projects. One year had only 10 months; December being the 10th month. You can see it still in September (7), October (8 ) and November (11). March was month 1.

January (Janus, the two-faced God) and February were added later, but the year still functionally began in March. It was in 153BCE when Rome shifted the start of the consular or political year to the middle of winter; January 1st for political and military readiness for the start of the natural year in March-April. January as named after Janus who looks both behind and ahead. For 2000 years we have been in a split between biological reality and institutional structure.

At this spring threshold, echoed in Passover and Easter, join our community to align with our biological reality, release the old, awaken renewal, and consciously start anew. We are still in the time for resolutions and planting seeds.
