HOT TAKE: “Being misdiagnosed is no big deal.”
Actually… it can be a very big deal.
A diabetes diagnosis isn’t just a label. It can influence your treatment, the care you receive, the tools you have access to, and how you understand what’s happening in your body.
And misdiagnosis isn’t as rare as you might think. The American Diabetes Association says misdiagnosis can occur in up to 40% of adults with newly diagnosed type 1 diabetes.
If something about your diagnosis doesn’t feel right, it’s okay to ask questions. It’s okay to seek a second opinion. And it’s okay to ask whether additional testing could help clarify your diagnosis.
