👻 Did you know that according to Chinese medicine, you have FIVE Spirits?

Have you ever found yourself overthinking everything, struggling to find motivation, feeling disconnected from yourself, or having difficulty letting something go?

Chinese medicine has an ancient and rather fascinating way of understanding these experiences.

It's called the Five Spirits, and each one represents a different aspect of our emotional lives, including our ability to experience joy, dream about the future, process grief, concentrate, and find the courage to keep going.

🌿 The really interesting part? Each Spirit is associated with a different organ system, reflecting the Chinese medicine philosophy that our physical and emotional health are deeply connected.

In our latest article, we introduce you to all five, explore what they represent, and share simple ways to support each one.

You might even recognize yourself in a few of them!

✨ Which of your Five Spirits could use a little extra attention?

🍂 Fall is officially here, and cold and flu season isn't far behind!

While we can't avoid every bug that comes our way, there are plenty of simple things we can do to support our immune systems as we transition into the cooler months.

Here are five ways to give your body a little extra support this season.

😴 Get your sleep. Aim for 7–9 hours each night. Quality sleep is essential for healthy immune function.

🥕 Eat nourishing, seasonal foods. Load up on colorful vegetables, quality proteins, and foods rich in vitamin C and zinc. In Chinese medicine, autumn is also a wonderful time to enjoy warming soups, broths, and cooked vegetables.

🌿 Make acupuncture part of your fall wellness routine. For centuries, Chinese medicine has emphasized prevention as a cornerstone of good health. Acupuncture is traditionally used to strengthen Wei Qi, the body's defensive energy, and support its ability to adapt to seasonal changes. Modern research also suggests that acupuncture may influence immune signaling and help regulate inflammatory responses.

🚶 Keep moving. Regular exercise supports healthy immune function, improves circulation, and helps manage stress. Even a daily 30-minute walk can make a difference!

🧘 Slow down and manage stress. Chronic stress can interfere with your immune system. Make time for meditation, deep breathing, gentle stretching, or simply doing something you love.

Remember, taking care of your health doesn't have to be complicated. Small, consistent habits add up.

If it's been a while since your last acupuncture treatment, now is a wonderful time to come in for a fall tune-up.

💛 Your teenager may not always show you how much your presence matters. Keep showing up anyway.

The teenage years can be a strange new landscape for parents.

Suddenly, the child who once told you everything may spend hours behind a closed door, communicate in mysterious one-word answers, or be deeply invested in a digital world you barely understand. 📱😅

But connection doesn’t have to disappear during adolescence. It may simply need to change.

🌿 Try listening without immediately offering a solution.

🌿 Ask about the game, creator, music or online world they love—even if you don’t quite understand the appeal.

🌿 Create rituals that belong to the two of you: a weekly walk, cooking dinner together, an evening check-in.

🌿 Let them hear what you appreciate about them.

🌿 Whenever possible, collaborate on boundaries rather than simply dictating them.

Traditional Chinese Medicine views adolescence as a significant period of physical and emotional transformation. Supporting sleep, nutrition and emotional balance is important—but parenting itself also becomes a balancing act: guidance and freedom, boundaries and trust, discipline and compassion. ☯️

Our Tao to Wellness blog takes a deeper look at mindful parenting and practical ways to stay connected with your teen as they grow into themselves.

💫 Because sometimes strengthening the relationship isn’t about getting them to talk more. It’s about making sure they know you’re there when they’re ready.

🌿 How long have you been putting up with it?

Painful periods. Hot flashes. Poor sleep. Bloating. Headaches. Fatigue. Anxiety.

Women can become incredibly good at adapting to not feeling quite right. We push through, work around our symptoms, and eventually start telling ourselves, “I guess this is just normal now.”

But getting used to something isn’t the same as feeling well.

In Chinese medicine, we’re interested in the connections. Your sleep, digestion, menstrual cycle, stress, energy and hormonal changes aren’t necessarily separate conversations—they can be different pieces of the same larger picture. 🧩

That becomes especially important as women move through the many transitions of life, from menstruation and fertility through perimenopause, menopause and beyond.

Our latest Tao to Wellness article explores "7 common women’s health concerns" and how acupuncture and Chinese medicine approach them.

✨ Difficult periods and PMS
✨ Perimenopause and menopause
✨ Sleep changes
✨ Stress and anxiety
✨ Digestion
✨ Fatigue and more

The question we’d love you to ask yourself is:

What have I quietly decided I just have to live with?

🍂 Feeling the shift into fall?

Even if the Bay Area weather hasn’t quite gotten the memo, the energy of the season is beginning to change. The days are getting shorter, summer travel is winding down, routines are returning—and you may notice your body asking for something a little different, too.

In Chinese medicine, autumn is a time to begin drawing our energy inward. It’s associated with the Lung and Large Intestine systems, our defensive energy or Wei Qi, and the idea of letting go of what we no longer need. 🌿

It’s also a wonderful time to start making small seasonal shifts: warmer foods, a little more rest, more consistent routines, and extra support for the body as we head toward cold and flu season.

In our latest blog, we’re sharing simple ways to align your body and mind with autumn—from what to eat and how to support your Lung system to seasonal self-care and why now is a great time for an acupuncture tune-up.

🦴 What do hydration, movement, and Kidney Jing have to do with joint health?

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, keeping your joints healthy as you age involves more than simply stretching or drinking more water.

Hydration helps nourish the body’s tissues and fluids, while regular movement encourages the smooth circulation of Qi and Blood. TCM also connects the strength of the bones and joints to Kidney Jing—our deep reserve of constitutional energy that naturally changes as we grow older.

While aging is inevitable, stiffness and limited mobility don’t have to be accepted without question. Gentle exercise, nourishing foods, proper hydration, acupuncture, and other supportive habits may help keep the body stronger, more flexible, and more comfortable over time. 💧🌿
