July is UV Safety Awareness Month, a great reminder that protecting your skin is an important part of staying healthy year-round. According to the CDC, skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States, and most cases are linked to exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun. Regular sun protection and skin checks are important parts of preventive health care.

Whether you're spending the day at the park, enjoying a community event, or simply taking a walk around the neighborhood, a few simple steps can help protect your skin:

👒 Wear a hat, sunglasses, and protective clothing
🌳 Seek shade during peak sun hours

Enjoy free backpacks, school supplies, hot meals, haircuts, live music, and family-friendly activities. Stop by the LifeLong booth to meet our team, learn about our services, connect with community resources, and visit our dental van.

Learn more about LifeLong East Oakland Health Center and the upcoming integration of Howard Daniel Health Center and East Oakland Health Center, including the comprehensive services available to East Oakland families.

Additionally, Freedom Community Clinic will be offering free wellness experiences, including acupuncture, guided stretching, and an herbal medicine workshop where participants can learn about common herbs and take some home to support their health and wellness.

As we celebrate 50 years of community-based care and kick off National Health Center Week, we're proud to support Oakland students and families alongside our community partners.
